Ilyushin IL-28, must be in here somewhere already.
Whatever, I found this and felt it time to clear the sinuses after all that PC GA pootling...

Built like some others, courtesy of a RR Nene the Brits kindly sent over.
Nearly 7,000 built, saw action in the Middle East, Nigeria, and Afghanistan.

Wiki: One unusual design feature of the Il-28 was that the wings and tail were split horizontally through the centre of the wing, while the fuselage was split vertically at the centreline, allowing the separate parts to be built individually and fitted out with systems before being bolted together to complete assembly of the aircraft
Well the Brits had their revenge, this is exactly how Airfix made them, too

Vladimir Zhyhulskiy has created a very welcome update of this Cold War Warrior.

The Fairchild C-123 Provider was designed originally as an assault glider aircraft for the USAF!
Somebody thought it might be a good idea to add some engines: an early variant had four General Electric J47-GE-11 turbojets, in two pods, which made it the first USAF jet-powered military transport.
This version is the C-123K, with auxiliary jet pods and anti-skid brakes.
Even with the added boost, it barely clears the fence…

This aircraft is associated with the most whacky covert ops of the Cold War era.
A few were converted to drop cluster bombs.
Some were used as “flare shipsâ€￾ to light up targets for gunships.
Someone thought up a great plan: mount 28 lights in place of the rear ramp. This could light a two-mile circle from an altitude of 12,000 ft!
Only one was so converted because it became rather an obvious target for enemy gunners…
The CIA had some for their “Air Americaâ€￾ covert operation.
They also supplied them to Taiwan’s “Black Batâ€￾ crowd, who did things at night over North Vietnam, and later, Cambodia.

Vlad clearly knows something; the eagle-eyed will spot that in the first pic, the crates contain live hogs.
So a little live hog dropping, then:

But of course, the Provider is best-known as an aerial crop sprayer.
Most famously deployed under Operation Ranch Hand, was that well-known carcinogenAgent Orange,
Perhaps a million people, including aircrew, experienced the after-effects of this effort.

Yeah, imagine though how many lives could've been saved across the Atlantic convoy route, if the US had had them.
U-boat wouldn't have stood a chance of downing it.

Cheers Paul - the C-123 shots were actually made at Haast!
I was tinkering with some PR/autogen down there.
See? you can do anything in NZ and get away with it...

1950's US carriers needed something to deliver the mail.
This is it, courtesy of Milton Shupe and the SOH boys:

This is the tame version of the Tracker (more from Milton & Co. in just a little while...)
