Peter Walker strikes again?!

An area to discuss scenery addons for virtual NZ

Postby Grumble » Sun Nov 28, 2010 7:23 pm

Someone here might want to check this out?

http://simviation.com/1/browse-Scenery-63-0?mark=34832#34832

Check the FSX Auckland Central and South link... is it Real NZ / VLC? I haven't downloaded it, but given this guy's previous record...

While you're at it, Ian ...

I did a Google search on "vector landclass" and found a link that points to a dodgy site. It seems our friend (not!) blakenz has done it again.

Grrrr ....

Spotted that one to Adam.......this sort of thing could put you off simming. Unless you pay for it, theres no guarantee that even a download from flightsim.com or whoever....isnt dodgy......not nice.

I tried it on BING (fight the Goog, I say... icon_twisted.gif ) and got a hit for the PirateBay torrent site - a page of payware products there incl:
- FSX New Zealand Vector Landclass
- Real New Zealand Supercity: Auckland for FSX
- Red Barron New Zealand Roads & Rivers (FS2004 & FSX)

Makes me wonder how Torrent sites stay up when their primary purpose is theft...

Opening up the SuperCity listing, I find a snide remark about "Robin Corn making no $$$ out of this," which really shows personal knowledge and indicates where this person is coming from.

The list of stuff there indicates this guy is "full time."

The other googled references, i.e. TradeMe etc may assist, if this info. isn't already being looked into.

Nah nothing was done about him last time when the supercity made it famous there , though i would love to meet the guy and smash up his Car just to empty his pockets too , really makes you want to go F it to sim design and go into other fields of work which doesnt have a massive group of ppls out to pull the feet from underneath you each month ,some how they get away with it on the forums here or via sites like these and the legit users get cr@p when they complain or try to defend the author with detailed information that points to the persons directly ,i have to laugh that we get told off for naming and shaming and the pirates get ,ok ill pull that post just for you bla bla cause you now threaten our forum , what a load of proverbial dibble ,how many forums run like this ,we should be standing up for ourselves, not backing down to these wa_n_kers .
ITS BS alright ,harden up

Com'n mike - tell us how you REALLY feel... tongue.gif Unfortunately, with many people thinking it's ok to steal music & video content, software is just a "natural" extension of that mindset. It's part of why I try to hammer home to my customers the importance of not stealing music: once one goes down the LimeWire / FrostWire / Torrent "freebies" road, one has no moral compass for any digital content, regardless of whose livelihood is being pillaged.

Very eloquent, Mike! thumbup1.gif

I know many people use pirated stuff as a kind of "try before you buy" - which is a lesser of the two evils, but when it comes to local home-grown talent, downloaders could at least buy the stuff *as well*. As to the mindset of the person that UPloaded it ... hmmmm.

With respect to ripping Robin off ... having met the guy, he's not exactly Mr. BIG and doubt very much that he has some tax haven bank account in Vanuatu, or a big yacht stashed away (or even a C-172). Basically, he's just like most of us here on NZFF. Ripping Rob off like this is a sure fire way of ensuring we get no more work from him, period. I suppose that's BlakeNZ's general idea, though, right??

With the current recession, most regular FS companies are offering good discounts. There's really no excuse.

If anything, all this blakenz web traffic is going to immortalise the bloke on any Google (or Bing ) traffic stats. Sad but true

Adam, thanx for mentioning this, I dont recall our local developers discussing this a great deal. It may not be as straight fwd as I imagine, these things rarely are, but I like what the uk2000 scenery guys do where they place big annoying boxes in places like the middle of runways, other than that the scenery is fully functional. It gives you a fantastic idea about what to expect but has a couple of annoying features that drive you to purchase the s/w if you really like it. As far as stuff like VLC goes, couldnt there be a sample mesh or autogen or whatever that only covers one small distinct area?

Sadly the torrent option is a heck of a lot more prevalent than people who've posted so far are letting on. I'd say in a community of this size there is a good chunk of members who have d/l'd torrents of sim stuff, try-before-you-buy or not. Software and media piracy is rampant, dont know if or how its measured but I'm picking its hardly decreasing, and unscrupulous people will always find ways around measures you try an put in place I guess.

Concerning the file at Simviation, apparently this Peter Walker person has provided some kind of "photo evidence" to claim that he is the author.
A topic has been started by a person named Jay, and the response from the site's owner pretty much sums up his feelings about the situation...

http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1291016104

QUOTE
The author Peter Walker has insisted to all the sites he uploaded to, with photo evidence, that his files are indeed original and not pirated.

Due to the other sites relying on payware for their income they decided, as a matter of caution, to remove his files.

He subsequently posted the files again here. At this time I have no reason to disbelieve him - and indeed if it proves that he is right -- the far greater crime is false accusation.

I have, on several occasions, experienced illegal - even criminal - behaviour from payware FS companies. I'm not accusing this situation of illegality in any way but I certainly don't assume anyone is right until I have evidence.

I'll invite Peter to contribute to this thread.

Simviation never knowingly hosts any pirate files. Of course we will remove any known illegal files but not just on hearsay[/quote]

Not sure what you can do to sway him into accepting what you claim, but he clearly has placed the burden of proof in your court.

Its already been proven here on the forums and to the other flightsim hostings including this guy at simvation which has also been shown this proof by users here , here is the link http://nzff.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13131 which details out what was found in these files by peter walker and how they are 100% in no doubt Auckland super citys replaced agn from the orignal 2004 real New Zealand by Robin Corn ,
Im at the moment doing AGN and there is no way you wouldnt known that it was done by your hand as its like drawning a portrait with a certain color of skin/ hair /nose hair ear wax you name it ,it can not be mistaken

. Here's an actual comparison of this tile in Annotator, which shows buildings in red and vegetation in green:

Here's the suspect tile:

these green squares are size drawn by hand ,also the tree species is chosen by the user at this time ,like pine here and bush here etc ,it would be 1 in 700 billion this guy/girl would even get one of these trees correct in size and tree type which the guy/girl peter walker has done 1 million odd times ,maybe she should by a lotto ticket ..
