First Class Simulations Lancaster

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby scrubcutter » Sun Feb 28, 2010 10:45 pm

After reading the reviews, I thought I would take the plunge and get the new. Lancaster from First Class Simulations. Overall I would give it a 'satisfactory', though definately not in the same league as the Aerosoft Catalina/F-16, A2A Accusim range or the Classics Hangar FW-190. I am waiting for a reply from FCS re if/when a patch is available to fix some of the numerous issues, but in the meantime, it is graphically the best Lancaster for FSX. There is many issues with gauges not working and the sound doing funny stuff, but there are some nice variations. My biggest criticism is that the tail is invisible from the VC. I know this helps frames, however many of us use Track IR, and the Lanc is iconic and unique, and dammit! I want to see the twin boom tail when I am pulling a wingover at Wanaka!!!!! notworthy.gif

Sounds good, I need to get a bit of time up on it myself first though... blink.gif Do your boost gauges work?

Hmmm, haven't been able to locate it yet. Will try a detailed search of some other sites, FCS doesn't have a patch on their site for this aircraft yet...

Giday Ian, I've had a bit of a search, can't find anything myself yet. Lots of references in other forums about an upcoming patch, however nothing is confirmed so will have to wait and see. IMHO the Lanc is the coolest plane ever. I was badgering Shockwave/A2A a while back to do an updated version (the old WOP1 version I have is pretty dated, an Accusim version would be the ultimate) but they have too many other projects on the go. I hope FCS fix this model up, as being a Brit company, they should have a bit of national pride riding on this iconic aircraft!

Cheers

Mark

Gidday Mark ,

Have a funny feeling the primary designer was in the NZ , and so close to what its known as the most authentic Lancaster (ie: without any pre-current modifications - MOTAT ) , I had a chance to climb through this in the mid 80's , only wish i had photoed it better .

It Will be a goodie once problems sorted , texture and model wise she has not had the , it real debut , maybe something we could fix to enchance its interest ...... heck with 'Sir Peter Jackson' working on the movie ' Dambusters ' maybe we need to liven the show up a bit .

So this is true?
I've heard the rumor once but nothing further since...

Still have the 1954 movie on tape, have to watch it once again.
I wonder who's going to play the Barnes Wallis role. Would be nice to see some weird scientist's character, such as Bond's "Q", but as Desmond Llewelyn can't be casted any longer...

Cheers,
Markus.

I can feel an OPERATION CHASTISE coming on. Know of any good dams in FSX? radar.gif

As an aside, my old man was at Whenuapai in the '60's when NX665 (MOTAT Lanc) was flown in from New Caledonia, and had a few ales with the crew in the mess with them. Pity it wasn't looked after for so long, it may have been able to be restored to flying condition. I believe however that it was already sporting a major crack in the mainspar when it arrived which would have grounded it not long afterwards anyway. Taking to the prop blades with an angle grinder during its ground running days apparently shook the hell out of it after the prop balance was lost, further damaging it beyond airworthyness. Shame sad.gif

Speaking of aerobatics, have you tried to roll it yet? In his book "Sigh for a Merlin", Alex Henshaw claimed that a roll was part of the standard post-production test flight for every Lanc...
