Just to say I "dipped my toe in the water" again on Monday night. Not for long, sadly (dinner beckoned!!) ... but it felt great to be back. All systems are GO!

All I can say to any NZFF'er that hasn't yet experienced Kiwisim - get on in there, the natives are friendly (particularly the one that shot my elevator off whilst I was in Teamspeak changing my sound settimgs) laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

It's great to see all these wacky skins/repaints appearing.

Do you have "IL2 1946"?

There are patches required, most of the information you need can hopefully be found here:

http://www.kiwisim.net.nz/staticpages/inde...050716221142529

The version you are looking to update to is 409b1m.

Indeed I do ACE , brand spankin new cool.gif , few thing s start to kick in after reboot 0300 this morning , I had to try the guns out , so i jumped in a 109 .... final shot down a P51 and damaged another , jezzz ... well over 7 years since i have fired a gun at another plane laugh.gif .... i do like the tracer affect !

The patch is downlaoding now , priority is to map out the keyboard , mentioned , been so long and have been using yoke and rudder!

Cheers thumbup1.gif

Take a look in outside view - you can see every single spent cartridge flying away!! cool.gif

My two most common mistakes in IL-2 are:

1) Attacking bombers from the rear. The rear gunnners are pretty accurate (and seem invulnerable!).
2) Attacking AAA. Can be done, but I don't know the trick!

Other hints:

1) Watch the torque on some of the more powerful planes - and keep trimming.
2) Watch your engine temperature. Monitor your revs and use prop/mixture controls.
3) Some aircraft have a turbocharger (as well as WEP).
4) Some aircraft can be decidedly "twitchy" - particularly the Fw190.

2) Also your radiator can help with engine temps (good idea to open it in a dive, let some fresh air in biggrin.gif)
3) Yep we have to change our supercharger at different heights for some aircraft.
4) They sure can, the P51 is known for spinning out, takes a smooth hand to fly some planes. Also setting your control inputs to smoother settings (can do this from the main menu ingame) tends to help twitchyness.

I just love the way we all work together to achieve the only really important goal, to push back the enemy into the corner! Points although well received i'm sure, takes second place to teamwork and the ultimate goal as it is in war. That is why there really is no other place better than Woody's Friday and Sunday night shoot up! I think it would suit alot of Nzff'ers as both Kiwisim and NZFF have such a great group of people! friendly, polite but also like to have a laugh!

That's absolutely right. Even though there's often some pretty "serious" teamwork going on, it's all very light-hearted. You only see the planes and hear the radio chatter, but personalities do come through - and you quickly feel you "know" these people (that seem to be able to shoot you down in record time winkyy.gif). Only true geeks understand that sort of kinship laugh.gif

For anyone finding their feet in IL2 I will put a text file together that should have helpful info.

You can map most controls to a joystick Ian so no need to remember all the keyboard commands. Like any new game though the controls will be foreign until you get acquainted with them.

As always Ace and I are willing to offer help on here or by PM. I am also happy to do up a DVD of files if you don't have net access or enough cap to download the patches.
