IL2 Formation Aerobatics Night

A single forum dedicated to all other non Microsoft flight simulation games

Last night 'us IL2ers' tried a bit of a formation aerobatics night. This proved to be unimaginably difficult, but surprisingly we did pretty well (with only one real major mishap causing the entire flight to blow up, as you can see below).

We started off using Kittyhawks, but soon decided they were a bit much to handle in close formation, so we switched to Dauntlesses (or as we like to think of them 'the closest things to Harvards'), which proved to be more docile.

Damn! These are *awesome* pics!!! Must've taken a while to compile and upload (thanks!!!).

Who took the screenies ... a non-formation "spotter"? It's been so long I can't even remember how to make movies/screenshots from IL-2. I do still have FRAPS (I think) .. collecting dust, like my IL-2 sad.gif

Next question - are all the Dauntless skins there by default, or did everyone install extra skin packs?

Sure do love it, but I'd personally love having Harvards more biggrin.gif

Your welcome smile.gif
I took the screenshots, IL2 has the ability to record tracks, and replay them. I then take screenshots / video from the replay.

All the Dauntless skins are the bare default one, apart from the Red and Grey Harvard scheme. Extra skins are easily found and installed.

Hmmm ... maybe an idea there (the wing) ... though we'd get seriously massacred ... some of those Kiwisim guys are pretty "useful". As to being your wingman ... I'd be honoured ... but you may live (or die!!) to regret it laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif

Think id better source the program , find out from ACE or the reat of the aerial Commando's what system they are running , i'd prefer to run it on this PC keeping the bullet holes away from the scenery smile.gif

We could work both ways .. learn some old tatics .. Nine rollover on a five ... worked super

Take a look on Trademe IL-2 1946 is often up there ... eg. this one: $39 No reserve ... free shipping.

Cheaper than your average FS add-on - with dozens of flyable aircraft ... with stunning 3D cockpits ... great flight models ... [sigh] laugh.gif

Paul let me know if you want me to help in any way smile.gif

Ian, great to see you got the game ... you'll have to patch it to vers 408 then vers 409. Let me know if you want me to do up a DVD with the patches on it.

Paul, I have given you patch vers 409 on disk but I didn't think about 408... duh, I can pop that on disk too and give it to ya next week or you can grab it from the following links:

408 patch 145 megs

409 patch 490 megs

Take a look at the KiwiSim forum on the post by Nick for more info. I wouldn't be worried about trying to get all the skins ... you'll pick them up in game, same with the maps etc. Just concentrate on getting familiar with the game first. We fly using semi-realistic settings like prop torque twist and it can take some getting used to. I recall being stoked the first time I actually landed a plane lol.
