Kiwi Chopper repaints

Discuss aircraft addons and repaints for Flight Simulator here

Postby deeknow » Thu Apr 16, 2009 10:07 am

There's been interest in the odd thread lately about repaints of fling-wing aircraft based in NZ. I thougt I'd keep the ball rolling with a Hughes 500C repaint I did yesterday of ZK-HBS. From the CAA records it seems that it is currently registered to Rick Lucas Helicopters who I beleive is associated with HeliPro (can anyone confirm?). Would like to find out a little more about the aircraft (other than whats on the Helipro webpage) before I release the repaint to AVSIM. Has been really hard to find any decent photos of the machine too.

Anyway, here's a screenie of the Chopper waiting for a couple of well-heeled hunters who are staying in the Chateau Tongariro laugh.gif ...

Yes
Ricky Lucas is the founder of helipro, firstly based at PN many moons ago before spreading his wings or rotors in his case..

I emailed Helipro for some info on the machine and the Admin Manager Melody, kindly sent me the following:

QUOTE
Thank you for your email. The 500 (HBS) aka Helipro 16, operates out of our Rotorua base. It does scenic flights mostly but also Lodge charters, it is a back country fly fishing favorite, also conducts photography and the odd lifting job including fire bucket work.[/quote]

right, whos got some others to contribute? ... thumbup1.gif

Looks good thumbup1.gif
Helicopters can't actually fly. Their just so ugly that the world repels them. :)

Have just uploaded a repaint I've done of Richard Frady's H500C in the livery of an old NZ based machine ZK-HPT. This chopper was operated out of the Lakeland Helicopters base in Murupara near Rototua in the North Island of New Zealand until 1989 when it was removed from the register and scrapped after a forced landing (aka crash, no fatalities fortunately)

It was used (amongst other things I'm sure) for aerial shooting and deer recovery as well as for ferrying hunting and fishing parties into nearby forest areas in the Urewera park. My family are regular users of the Lakeland services and flew in this machine of Peter Bradley's a number of times with guys like Derek Lowe at the helm. In fact my father and his brother were in the aircraft a day or so before its last crash.

You can download it from flightsim.com (filename: h500-zk-hpt.zip). Feedback welcome smile.gif

I think I posted this into another thread awhile back, but figuired it should be included here.

This is another repaint I've done of the Nemeth brothers MD500-E model for ZK-INZ as operated by Amalgamated Helicopters. Amalgamated Helicopters is a family business locally owned and operated in the North Island on the East Coast of New Zealand. The Company was formed in the mid eighties; the main activity at that time was live deer capture and recovery, over the years AHNZL has diversified into all types of commercial work evolving into the Wairarapa's Leading Commercial Helicopter Operators.

For more information on see their website at:
http://www.amalgamatedheli.co.nz/about.aspx

You can download this skin from HoverControl, hit the following link and search for ZK-INZ

Thanx Ian, I'll keep pumping them out then, the 500 is such a cool aircraft, and I've got heaps of photos and a few books that'll keep me busy painting them for years to come :-)

Nice to see the 500 repaints trickling in! I may have to grab that E one, looks very sharp. I'm disappointed you discontinued the paint for HOT Ian, she is a legend among the deer machines. Well, to me, anyway tongue.gif

Deeknow, would you consider doing a version of this scheme for me:
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Helikopteri...9HS)/1608469/L/
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Scan--Auto/...9HS)/1274515/L/
http://www.airliners.net/photo/Hughes-500C...9HS)/0446495/L/

I would be very grateful as not only is this the scheme for the "star" of one of my favourite movies, "Birds Of Prey", but the vast majority of 500s operated in NZ over the years flew in this scheme.

If it could be done for the Richard Frady high-skid that would be great, whichever is easiest.

Hi all

I am knew to nzff, but not to FSX and have made some repaints of some venison recovery choppers. If anyone would like me to make some repaints of ONLY DEER RECOVERY CHOPPERS, please e-mail me at liam_mxridin_@hotmail.com. Hughes 500D: This repaint is of 'Amalgamated Helicopters' AMP paint shceme from about 1990. It was used for venison recovery and the odd rescue. My first repaint for Flight Sim I used Paint.net/Hughes 500C: Tim Wallis' company 'Alpine Helicopters' bought this hughes 500c for deer recovery, it is one of many hughes 500c's used by Alpine Helicopters. This repaint was my second repaint and is'nt really finished. It needs a few more details here and there (including the tail rotor).

Cheers

Excellent stuff 500fan! I think you are my new best friend.....! How easy is it to repaint the 500C? I'm keen to slightly redo the HKI paint to reflect a couple of aircraft with personal meaning for me. Off to download them now! Thanks!

HAHA would be keen to be your new best freind... it is a little bit hard to repaint cos the chopper (MH-6C) found here http://www.hovercontrol.com/cgi-bin/ifolio...t=&bool=and has so many small objects and trying to find them so i can repaint them on the repaint sheet thing is really hard. so there are a few ood things on HKI that arent as they should be e.g the wire cutters on the bubble, on the cowl there are some weird black/brown things. If you want me to, i can send you the repaint so you can redo it like you said. just give me your e-mail.

cheers

What I want is a decent 500C/369HS, Piglets military ones are great but don't accurately reflect the Kiwi birds, and Richard Frady's one is the only high skid version out there as far as I can see, and apologies to Richard but I think there's room to improvement. A Nemeth 369HS would go down a treat.

I agree, for me, Richard Frady's 500 doesn't work in fsx, the bubble were glass is suposed to be is just black, but it works in fs9. Nemeth designs need to think seriously about making a 500C, I would definetly buy it! they should also make both of their 500D's without the 2 front doors and with hook! is their a program were you can edit someones aircraft like a 3D program or something?
