Looks like you are chucking the monster around a bit Ian - must of been awesome to see one of these flying in RL. Must of been a maintenance nightmare with ten engines of two different types!

Yeah ! .. not like anything we will ever see .. both u and myself in awe with a P51 or a spit , I think to at something like a B36 ... even to hear one , after begin close to a Connie running Wright Cyclones at 2800 hp due to h/octane fuel not avail , and the engine are capable of 3,250 hp are reasonable quite , the B36 with rear pusher units would have unique sound signature even before adding 4 F-86 's engines for extra power !

Your comments on the Connie is very timely as here is the AEW version of the Connie as flown by the US Navy (also flown by the USAF). One of the first big AWACs aircraft.

The Vigilante display is delayed due to mechanical issues (and I just felt like hauling this out of the hanger)

I shouldn't of tried taking off at Woodbourne as it was doomed!

The rest of the display continues at NZCH

Excellent pictures mate. My first post on what looks like a great set of forums. Hard to come by shots of these old Russian classics, they sure made some interesting planes. These would not look out of place in a sci-fi movie smile.gif

Here is one of my favourite Cold War aircraft and therefore the subject of my contribution to this thread smile.gif

The Lockheed F-104G Starfighter of the Luftwaffe. She had her fair share of problems to begin with and her loss rate due to accidents in the early days was extreme. There was a saying amongst Luftwaffe personnel: What does a civillian have to do to own a Starfighter? Simply buy a block of land and wait! laugh.gif Fortunatley the bugs were ironed out and the F-104 went on to have a noteworthy career serving the German Air Force.

Cheers

Nice shot Florian - and welcome to the Cold War. biggrin.gif what model is that - Captain Sim?

Yep the Starfighter (nick named the "the Missle with a Man in it" & "the Widow Maker" for obvious reasons) would have to be one of the most important fighters during the 60s and 70s serving with most of the NATO forces and built in Germany, Italy, Canada etc as well as the US (although ironically not many served with the USAF considering it was a US airrcaft).

I have heard that ground crew could cut themselves on the wings trailing edge because it was so sharp. Whether it is true or not I am not sure but the wing was tiny and the trailing edge was very thin.

Nice shot of a beautiful model, Florian.
It's one I never got round to owning, but I am sorely tempted now...
Kelly Johnson (Chief Engineer of Lockheed's Skunk Works, who we'll hear about some more in this thread) went to Korea and spoke to the US Sabre pilots.
He came home, invented the F104 as a company venture, and sold it to the military.
I believe it could get to 40,000ft in about a minute.

The Cold War was a bit before my time, yet I still have a favourite aircraft from that era. The F-86 has always been the 'muscle car of the skies' for me, so without further ado, I present a seclection of screenshots from Kirk Olson's brilliant model:

Right on cue, Trolly
(School hols, y'have to move fast around here to stay ahead of the game, and I can now trash my fine Sabre sequence!)
My sense of the "Cold War" is focussed on the years 1947-1962 for some reason.
This is largely a bit before my time too, so maybe it is the aura of history about it.
In that period the War got just a little Hotter around the Korean Peninsula.
The reason Kelly went there, is the US pilots were actually saddled with inferior hardware.
Here is the cause: MiG 15 in company with its larger, heavier adversary

You can see how much smaller it is, and it was nimble, which would've made it very hard to hit.

Here's a 5-second clip of the little MiG, if Botophucket can just clear its throat:

But the MiG drivers weren't up to it, and they got shot down in droves.

Awesome shots Trolly, Charl and Fauville (and the clip Charl). Fauville how did you make the ground explosion with the Bear?Is there anyway you can make your Bear shots bigger?

Hey Naki,

The model has an effect using the 'I' button, open the bomb bay with Shift E, push I, and you get a winged warhead released from the bay, flys out and explodes on impact on the ground. Neat trick.

file is TU-95MS on Flightsim.com by V.Zhyhulskiy. Has a full VC also.

ah - The Su-15 (Flagon?) - forgotten about that one - can't say I have ever seen a black one or a FS model of it - where did you get it?

I tried to work out what the problem in why your images aren't displaying full size but no luck - can anybody shed some light on this? Maybe you should try photobucket and - I don't have any problems there.

Su-15A on Flightsim.com by Brett Hoskins theres a couple of files, I will try the pbucket again, always had problems with the upload button not appearing when logged in, image shack gives confusing URL and IMG info all rolled into one long line, so I will experiment a little to get it right.
