“Wings of Change" "The Evolution of East German Air Force Insignia”
Part 1: The Early Rhombus – Flying Before the Emblem

Before the hammer, sickle, and wreath became the omnipresent symbols of the GDR, some aircraft of the young East German Air Force bore a different mark: a rhombus in black, red, and gold — simple, ideology-free, almost reserved.

This insignia was especially seen on early jets like the MiG-15 — a piece of transitional history, often overlooked and rarely documented.

It represents a brief period during which the emerging East German state was still finding itself — even in the symbolism of its air force.
