This month's competition is once again kindly sponsored by Flight1.
The winner will receive a download of their choice from the excellent range of Flight1 Software.

NOTE: We have TWO categories for voting:

  1. Visual Appeal: the winner gets their image displayed as a banner throughout August.
Please vote for the image you find the most appealing.
  2. Relevance to the Theme: the winner gets the sponsored prize and sets the theme for the August screencomp.
Please vote for the image you think best fits the theme.
The two votes can go to the same entry or to different ones, but please place a vote in BOTH categories.
Voting will close at midnight on Sunday 5th August (Pacific/Auckland: UTC+12).

How to vote: just place a reply in this topic (below) - along the lines of:
Visuals vote to Number: Name

If you wish, add why you voted the way they you did. Please don't vote for your own entry (!!).

One always hears of the 'daring young men in their flying machines' but hardly ever of the poor souls, doing their jobs, who were easy targets.

Thanks - votes counted! :radar:

Visuals vote to 06: Splitpin - a real corker of a shot!
Relevance (theme) vote to 09: Hasegawa because I don't think the Soviets ever get enough credit for their contribution to WWII.

Thanks - votes counted! :radar:

Well done, folks - voting now closed!

Looks like we get to see Splitpin's balloon on August's banner ... and Chopper_Nut gets to choose a Flight1 add-on! Congratulations to both winners - some fine shots indeed, this month.

Adam.

Thanks, Adam and the team ...well done Nick, great shot.
I entered the balloon with the hope that it wouldn't! attract votes and bolster up whoever else entered ....what do I know :ph43r:
However, I believe it wouldn't be the banner today if ...maybe, 5 more members voted ... anyway, thanks very much and good luck with the August competition

I'm surprised to be honest. I thought that there were some far better shots than mine. Well done Marty. I would've thought that more people would've voted though. Anyway, I guess I'll go and and have a look at what Flight One has that I'm interested in.

Well done, guys, to me the result was inevitable, although my 'one vote' policy meant that I had to think long and hard about these two screenshots...
That banner would certainly grab people's attention if they were just passing through!
Not to detract from that, a real lack of interest again this month, both entries and votes, it does make me wonder how many actually consider themselves current members here...

Looking at the new banner, one most simple aircraft and one of the most advanced won each category.... Interesting.

My Dad was born in March 1913, when the Air Age was well established. All us kids were born between 1943 and 1956, so we belong to the Jet Age, with youngest bro just missing out on the Space Age, although we all saw Sputnik 1 passing, and heard its beeping on the Beeb. My daughter was born in Sept 1971, over two years after Man walked on the Moon.
Didn't take long, did it?

Mike

Well put Mike ...Im a 1957 model, and the advances in aviation from there (as you said) are amazing.
My earliest flying memory is flying to Auckland with my father on a Viscount ...followed by things like watching US Navy Neptune's and Constellations at NZCH ...seeing the first Mount Cook Airlines HS748 arrive , the first QANTAS 747.
Then as a young fella in the RNZAF flying home on leave in a Dak or a Bristol Freighter ...seeing the first Andover arrive and the last freighter leave ...taking my first flight in the Air Force in a Harvard ...then a Devon.
And MANY years later helping to install a TA4-K into the Wigram museum ...that I had flown in (thats odd)....and much more.
Im glad to have been born when I was ...it was a time of change. The aircraft my father knew were still (mostly) in place ...but all these new things were arriving.

Time is a funny old thing....I could go on , but I wont.
