Hi NZFF
This was quite a big sim weekend for me due to feeling a bit ill. One flight I took screenshots on today was from Interlaken to Sion, in Switzerland. I can thank Relax from Flightsim.com for recommending this flight.

On the climbout of Interlaken, it would seem that you need to make an early right turn so you don't have to head up a steep valley. Apparently I didn't know this!

Interlaken behind me, the scenery is really good here. I check with a few photos, it's pretty accurate too.

Interlaken is named very appropriately - it's wedged right between two lakes.

Cruising on up past Reichenbach. I need to go this way and over a mountain range to drop down into the Rhone valley, where Montana and Sion are at.

I took the left path at the fork

I ended up in a wide open forest area for a bit, but I realised I had gone the wrong way, and headed left for the mountain range, which I think is called the Bernese Alps.

Now at Montana, a small town in the Rhone Valley, to the east of Sion.

Downwind, Sion.

Touchdown and Parking.

This really was one of the best flights I've had in a while - I might do some more simming there tomorrow if I have time.

LOL, me too! I think I might take the day off school tomorrow and do a bit more simming ;)

I love mountain flying too, the Swiss/Austalian Alps are a fantastic region to explore in FS. Another nice flight is from Innsbruck to Geneva. There is some really detailed topographic data sourced (not STRM) 38m mesh available from avsim under the filename 'alpse_fe.zip' It's made by Holger Sandmann, the same guy who made that Alaska Glacier Bay scenery :D

mmmm looks cold.

I like that scenery, some of the fsx ground textures really are awsome.

What altitude is that, how does the baron perform up in the mountions?

Hehe looking good... You should try it in real life!
Flying into Sion is lots of fun, you have to cancel IFR and proceed from valley to valley VFR then depending on the wind circle for approach.
I remember getting into a small disagreement with a captain not too long ago about which valley Sion was in.
Not that much time to make decisions when your doing 270 IAS...!
I'll track some pics down of real life approaches around there and post them for you.

Also Innsbruck to Geneva is lovely, the Alps are pretty spectacular at the moment with plenty of snow around.
Check the real aviation forum for some pics Ive snapped lately.
Regards
Dave

Awesome Dave - I'll have a look. I can't imagine your jets would have much room to turn in there!

James, I went up to about 14000ft to be safe over the Bernese Alps, I didn't notice any significant change in performance once the mixture was leaned.

The Baron is turbocharged so it maintains its performance up pretty high, to about 15000' I guess...

And when you slow a jet up it has the same turning radius as something small. So we just configure at 160 kts or maybe less if theres cloud around and hand fly it in.
Have you watched the 737's approaching up the Frankton arm in Queenstown for rwy 05? Same sort of thing, looks pretty cool.
