NZFF September 2017 Screenshot Competition

The competition is now open!
NOTE: We now have TWO VOTES (one in each of TWO POLLS): One in the *visual appeal* poll and one in the *relevance* to the theme poll.
The two votes can go to the same entry or to different ones.
The winner in the "relevance" poll gets the sponsored prize and gets to suggest a theme for the next screencomp, whilst the winner in the "visual appeal" poll gets to have their banner displayed for the following month.

The September theme is: "Over the hump!" ... chosen by Adamski - winner of the July (theme) competition. If you have any theme-related queries, send him a PM!

... or it could be simply "airlift" - or any transport aircraft over a high mountain range ...

This month's competition is kindly sponsored by A2A Simulations and the winner will receive a download of their choice from their excellent product line.

A2A have an unsurpassed collection of add-on aircraft for FSX/P3D - and (like many of our sponsors) have generously supported our comp for a number of years. It'd be really great to use this photo-opportunity to show our appreciation with a great turn-out!

SCHEDULE
Images can be submitted up until midnight Saturday 30th September.
Images can be edited up until 11pm Saturday 30th September.
Voting runs from Sunday 1st October up until midnight Thursday 5th September.

Please read the rules below: if you have any queries, please PM Comp Admin for clarification **before posting your entry**.

    ELIGIBILITY
  1. Entry (and voting) for the competition is open to all registered NZFF members.

    THE SCREENSHOT
  2. The screenshot image must consist of a screen captured from a flight simulator program (FS2004, FSX, P3D, X-plane, DCS/IL-2 or War Thunder).
  3. Some editing is allowed: additional images can be added (either real or other screenshots), but the main component of the image should always be from a flight sim.

    IMAGE FORMAT
  4. The images can be jpg or png and must be EXACTLY 1280px wide (any depth).
  5. Though "visual appeal" is all about the complete screenshot image, bear in mind that (if it wins that poll), the final banner crops to around 1200px * 380px (max) - which is quite a narrow letter-box shape - so try to compose your shot so as not to lose areas of high interest.
  6. No frames or text on the image.
  7. Keep the original uncompressed/high resolution version (BMP or TIFF) saved on your PC - admin may request it from you at the end of the month to convert into a site banner!
  8. DCS users may want to look at these tips.

    SUBMITTING AN ENTRY
  9. Please post all screenshot/entries here - in this topic.
  10. Only one entry/single image per member is allowed.
  11. Images can changed any time up until 1 hour before the closing time: use the "edit" button at the top of the original post, delete the old image link and replace it with the new one.
  12. If possible, please add details of the aircraft depicted and general scenery/location information.

    VOTING
  13. After the competition entry deadline, all registered NZFF members may cast TWO votes: one for visual appeal and one for relevance to the theme.
The two votes can both go to the same entry or to different ones - but you must vote in BOTH polls.
  14. Entrants may not vote on their own screenshots (!).
  15. Voting runs for five days after the entry deadline.
  16. The winner in the "relevance" poll receives the prize from the designated sponsor and gets to suggest a theme for the next screencomp.
  17. The winner in the "visual appeal" poll will have a cropped version of their image posted as the NZFF banner for the following month.

That's it, folks - get snapping!

Adam.

Well this interesting screenshot reminds me of famous incident where Alaska Airlines 727 or 737 collided with deer on runway. When the plane was roaring down runway and deer suddenly appeared on runway, it was too late to stop and the pilots decided to make premature earlier take off. The deer noticed the plane and decided to challenge the plane using his anthers.

Guess who won?

Deer won. The plane managed to take off to avoid the deer but the deer's anthers ripped the front landing gear off the plane and the pilots had to make emergency landing without front wheels.

Regards,

Aharon

Good old Capt. Kirk with the borrowed (Klingon "toQDuj") translation 'Bird of Prey' ... hovering Over The Hump (Gracie the humpback whale that is) safely delivered from the past to San Francisco Bay. The world survives again.

These humps get everywhere (!), but here's a slightly more "historical" interpretation:

Image

The A2A C69 on its way to Kunming from Calcutta ... all engines, cargo and sandwiches still intact!

P3Dv4 with ORBX FTX Global doing the green stuff (it really is near Kunming - honest!) and ActiveSky+FEX doing the blue and white stuff. PTA re-colouring the lot!

Curtiss C-46 on the way to Kunming. Olive drab and Neutral gray are typical for aircraft up to September 1944. The Curtiss C-46 was "the aircraft of the Hump", but not without Problems. 31 aircraft of this type were lost between May 1943 and March 1945, and many others missing and never found. Just Flight C 46 and ORBX FTX Global.

First comp entry in a loooong time.
Flying the 'hump' from Haast to Wanaka up at around 6500ft just out the back of Makarora. XP11 with the ortho photo scenery 'Lyndiman' and Dreamfoil's superb 300. X-Plane is going to take over my life.......

Last few hours to go, folks!

Please make your entries EXACTLY 1280px wide. I can resize them for the votes, but it all makes for extra work for me.

Adam.

Visual Appeal Poll
Theme Relevance Poll

Don't forget, voting is open to ALL registered NZFF members - not just comp entrants. Voting closes at midnight, Thursday 5th October.

Adam.

Congratulations to Hasegawa (theme winner), who sets the theme for November and gets the sponsored prize from A2A (thank you!)
Congratulations also to Splitpin (visuals winner), who gets his image to appear as the NZFF Banner!

Well done ALL entrants and voters. Some great screenshots to enjoy - and don't forget to enter the October comp!
