Hi all,

I recently had a flight sim revelation - the scales fell from my eyes, so to speak. I acquired an F18 model for FSX. Now I'm a long time FS user (right back to the wire frame days!), and I've never been tempted by military jets. I guess I thought they were a bit like water skis, noisy and somewhat pointless. However, the F18 has opened up a new FS world for me. What a fun aircraft to fly. Now, when I don't feel like getting serious and practicing DME arc approaches in the King Air, I fire up a playlist in iTunes, start FSX, and take the F18 up for some aerial ballet, or a quick (and I mean quick) cross country flight.

The following are a couple of screenshots from such a flight. Hamilton to Paraparaumu in 13 minutes! (take-off to touch-down).

Moonrise over Mt Ruapehu. You have to imagine "I Want To Break Free" playing in the background.

This is the Australian Airforce AF-18A variant. The FS model itself was originally from Aerialfoundry, but has been modified by a Canadian chap for FSX.

waho! an impresive aircraft. Flying at that speed certianly is a good test for your pc at loading ground textures. yours is hardly blured at all, very nice!

So you got the speed bug? :P I recently installed a F16...gave vfr a whole new meaning for me. try this: load up at nzqn, set "heavy snows" or weather with a really low temp, don't turn the pitot heat on, fly around for a whiel in the cloud untill you no longer have an asi indication (use the red text from "shift+Z" and wait for that indication to drop to zero) if your lucky you still may have mach indicator. Then climb to like FL300 (witch shoudln't take long for the pilot that likes to try more adventuroes pitch attitudes) Then head downwards at 80degress, as fs ins't giving a ias it won't give you an "overstresses"....I got to M4.8 in a F16 doing this, if you want try flying threw a mountain at this sped, youy just go straight threw, no crash detected hahaha...

...yes I get a little bored at times

Sorry about that guys. I was using "MyOtherDrive" to store the photos, and it seems to be down at present. I have moved them to Photo Bucket, so here they are again:

Sure,

The aircraft originally comes from Aerialfoundary. It was made for FS9, but I have a version that has been adapted for FSX.

Dave.

It's the flying of a military aircraft on a mission.
