Was going to fly down to Mt Cook but made some last minute changes and decided to hop down to Kaikoura (now that I have this fixed to suit the 20m mesh) for a spot of whale watching

Was flying VFR but everything turned to custard and had to file an IFR flight plan not too long after take off as it clouded in rapidly (I guess I should have checked what the weather was like on the way more carefully). This was just about the end of my tour as I got mightily close to the Kaikoura ranges - I was distracted trying to sort out IFR plans, auto pilot etc - just as well I don't fly in RL!

Popped out on the other side of the ranges and the weather was a lot more friendlier

An AI contrail (perhaps an Air NZ 737 flying from Auckland to Christchurch)

Had to go around to avoid a Cherokee taking off but rather proud of my landing on the narrow runway - I did some touch and goes here the other day in a 172 and heaps of trouble- must of been a strong cross wind.

Lovely, Naki, no floating buildings!
That VA Cessna rudely crossed my approach the other day when I was glueing down my buildings at Kaikoura

I wonder if Dorian would upload the whales for us ...

Where did you get that photoreal Nelson airport scenery Naki?? It looks awesome!

Also, if you boost your 3D cloud settings up to 100%, you can get rid of those rather fake looking outlines in pic #4 (if your PC can handle it)

How do you get the tie things on your plane in the final picture?

Trolly

The Nelson scenery is Ian Warrens qvailable @ Avsim. Sits fine on 20m mesh but does have a building crash problem so u need to take crash protection off when flying in - also the runway numbers are reversed - nice scenery though.

Thanks for the hint on the clouds - have tried it and a bit of a hit on FPS but still okay - all my sliders are maxed out now .

This is the Dreamfleet payware Baron which has a tie down function - u may also notice that the fuels caps are off on the wing and the nose baggage door is open - there are lot of other functions (including covers over pitots etc) over and above the default a/c.

Cheers

Got to say those tie-downs look pretty ineffective - you certainly wouldn't leave it in Wellington like that! (I've actually seen a Cessna 152 take off with two concrete filled tyres still tied to the wings...)

Despite that, the DF Baron is still one of my favourite planes. If only there were an FSX version (and RXP for FSX too) :plane:
