I feel fine with the new voting method. Problem is that you can't see the closed comp thread and you can't look back at your shots and thinking the probability of winning? Well, do the M.A.T.H.S! Though I am clever in M.A.T.H.S

Not sure what you are on about,...you don't need to look back at the closed comp thread,..all of the entries are visible for viewing in the voting thread proceeding it . Also you have a whole month to view and assess your entry against the other members entries to work out your "probability" of winning. Commonsense is often more important than being clever at maths.

It works well for me.....

I look at them all as they are posted and by the time voting comes around I have a pretty good idea of what I like.

I see now that the current screenshot comp thread is closed for some reason, I don't know why. unsure.gif

Well it looks like the theme for this month comp has gone out the window I took it to be all about gliders IE; Sailplanes but it looks like it is all about planes with propulsion.
So come on where are all you Sailplane guys :?: :?: :?:

I do have time in Gliders .. had Wigram not closed moneys would have been spent there rather Flight Simulation .. a two way road.

Well I suppose it could be changed to "Any Plane Gliding" and leave the glider soaring out all together

As the theme was my idea, I feel a bit responsible ... but c'mon guys ... it isn't *that* difficult, Shirley? I started a "Gliders" topic for those wanting to know about gliders in FSX/P3D to try and help out.

I've always thought that entries should be judged for two things:

1) Quality of the image itself.
2) How well it fits (or is in the spirit of) the current theme.

It it were possible, I'd have liked a mark out of ten for each, per vote - then all these marks could be totalled to get the winner. But - we're limited to simple votes, so not much we can do about that - unless we use our first vote for (1) and our second one for (2).

Adam.

EDIT: The problem with "any plane gliding" is that it simply wouldn't show - if it's a jet - so the theme (effictively) becomes meaningless - and a free-for-all. If the theme was "Dead Stick", then OK - but it isn't.

Thanks Adam but is seems that every theme I use seems to be pulled to pieces and interpreted the wrong way by one or two smart asses so really I think it is coming to the stage where all the comps will not have a theme just open to anything that participants want to enter.
That would make it much easier for those that do not want to use their brains to think up a good image that will fit in and comply with a set theme for the comp.

'Propliner' is actually short for 'Proper airliner, with big rumbly radials'

Maybe worth mentioning that - for the sake of a screenshot - using SLEW is always an option, so you don't have to rely on thermals etc.

One thing is also how one interprets the theme, even my initial idea's to break the ice took to a shallow dunking .. I do wonder how many have actually flown or even tried flying a glider, that is something one should really give a go ..... 'BUCKET LIST' material !

I generally look forward to seeing what the theme is each month, but I'm also one who likes to 'interpret' the theme. This is generally because there are plenty of sim aspects which just don't grab me, and I always try and enter the comp even if the theme doesn't work for me. Last month was an example -- I'd previously gone through the process of setting up my sim to record for formation flying, but at the time I found it a real pain in the rr's, so i wasn't going to go through it again. I could have chosen not to enter, but I do think that everyone who loads a sim once a month has an obligation to enter:)

I live in dread of an 'airliner' theme, I just don't fly anything bigger than my head...

So while pushing members to do some work to get an entry might seem like a great idea, and it would be if there were too many entries each month, but it might make more sense to open it up a bit more.

You don't have to fly a glider to enter a good screen just fly your GA aircraft and place it in a good position for a screen grab and change from your GA to a glider grab you pic and you have a good pic for the comp it doesn't matter if you loose control of your glider after you have your pic we won't see that. :D
