NZFF

Well here we are, 300 posts, hasnt time gone past fast! I decided for this one to share with you all some multiplayer action from a session I had this morning in FSX.

For those who have FSX you will know the road layout is quite accurate (if you don't have FSX yet check out the competiton on the ARNZ home page for a chance to win 1 of 2 copies) My mate and I have been talking about taking a 'road trip' up the remarkables in Queenstown to the ski fields. Today was the day after we both installed HAMA's fantastic BMW 760Li so we could do it.

The trip would be a round trip from NZQN to the carpark at the remarkables ski fields, then up to the lake and the views at the very top down onto Queenstown itself. I would be driving the beamer and Nik the Jetranger 'photo' ship (Nik's screeneis will come along in a few days).

After a few false starts, mainly the BMW not having enough power so changes to the config file were in order, we embabrked on the first road trip either of us have ever been involved with in Flightsim. Here are some snaps taken along the way....

Departing NZQN...



The Remarkables really are remarkable, however the road up them is not



Pretty easy stuff so far, nice and gentle. The BMW handles like a dog but so far so good. Nik seems to be doing ok keeping a close eye on me..



Gaining altititude. By the end we had gone up 2000 feet from our start location at the airport..




Nic waiting for me to catch up, quite slow going to ensure I dont loose control and go over the edge..

Hmm, I think Nik got the easy job..



And yes, I do like dressing up as a japanese lady while I drive, don't we all ?



Man, so far to go...shes a bumpy old road..



Finally hit the snow line..




Not a good time to loose control, shes vertical above and below..





To be honest, a got vertigo on this section, and who said this was a simulator !




I believe thiose two lakes are their in real life, used to feed the snow making machines..



And finally at the top carpark.



Bit further up to the lake and a well deserved cuppa tea..

Who said BMW's cant fly, this is a flightsimulator afterall

haha thats awsome! I think I recently downloaded that BMW but haven't got around to driveing it..

those screenies are rather good, a differant perspectaive. I once installed a car in fs that even had a radio that you could play cds in your pc with.. lol how did you manage to make it jump like that that road look sprety ruf, did you have crash detection on?

I do like dressing up as a japanese lady while I drive, don't we all ?

Jon now that is absolutely amazing , wonder how it takes for someone to do that 4WD road race up there with Helio's covering the action !

lol, pleased you enjoyed it Jimmy, no, no crash detection and because I changed the config file to allow the BMW to get up the gradient, on the flat with full gas made it fly over small bumps...all good fun.

That's a great idea Jon. BTW who is Nick? I forget many of the first names on these forums...

Is that the default Jetranger your flying? If so where could I get the repaint?

Thats one of the default FSX rangers, the skin comes with FSX so check your listing, its a fire service repaint, even got 'smokey the bear' on the side

Nick's a mate in Dunedin, doesnt frequent the forums..yet, hopefully that will change soon.

We do alot of online flying together, 'Nik and Jons world tour of New Zealand' we call it, were flying everywhere in small aircraft, some shared cockpit flying, mostly separate aircraft, and some different stuff like this adventure today.

I was really impressed, the landclass is dodgy but they really got the roads right.

Those HAMA models are brilliant aren't they?
(I see you didn't need to wipe the windscreen despite all that mountainclimbing B) )
And good to see FSX has gone some way to improving the roads from FS9 - previous tries were strictly limited to 4x4!

Awesome stuff! I've always found cars in FS to be very difficult to control, although I think it's more that the roads tend to be insanely bumpy.

Yes its been alot of fun. Today we embarked on a new journey as we start to make our way north slowly. Left NZDN heading to Omarama 85nm away. A quick fuel stop and we took off again for Wanaka, more fuel loaded and it was off to Milford. The Wanaka-Milford portion of the flight was particularly impressive scenery wise, once we got past the cloud that had us nervous given the terrain...
