Im not sure if im for the water effects in fsx. It just seems too detailed from too high up

Yeah there are views you can capture which are magic, but the same water textures seem to appear whatever the altitude, but more distractingly, on ALL water surfaces.
So the farm dams also have this wonderful Cruel Sea look.
Early days, FS9 water eventually got fixed (remember that turquoise goo we started with?)

The only add on's I'm using is the 20m Mesh/Topo. Ms has done a good job with NZAA but there's always room for improvement!

I only use the water effect for screenies as I actually don't mind the FS9 like effect at 1xHigh plus it also gives back a few more frames and that's always a good thing.

Cool shots Cirrusnature. I'm a big fan of that Caravan, I find the VC to be very good.
