A legend in its own time...

OK the F-15 is formidable, but the Strike Eagle derivative puts this machine in a class of its own.
McDonnell Douglas recognised the potential of their F-15A/D airframe for an all-weather, day/night, strike/interdictor package, so they started it as a private venture.
It turned out so good, that it is still in frontline service after 18 years and will stay there until at least 2025.
It is flown by the US Air Force and export versions abound, in Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and very notably, Israel.

It has an amazing track-while-scan, lookdown/shootdown radar, and carries every bit of ordnance in the USAF inventory:

It was the first US plane with thrust exceeding loaded weight, so it goes straight up

Designed originally in response to the MiG Foxbat, it gave the Soviets such a fright they designed the Su-27.
They all share that twintail look, although there's no mistaking an Eagle

This is the only FS F-15E model I know of, competently done by Iris.
Good VC, nice sounds..

Some recent photoreal textures by Lucien Lie have transformed this model:

The first Eagle kill was made in Israel in 1979. I had a go at a 2-ship sortie in the Bekaa valley, a famous encounter in Israel's history

The only one-wing recovery that has ever been documented, was by an IAI Eagle. The video has been listed on this forum, I'm sure someone can come up with the link.

I love machines made fit for purpose.
I love this aircraft, and have devoted a good chunk of my spare time to it over the years.
Who else do you know that can operate a LANTIRN pod, and laser-designate a scud missile, while keeping a lock on half a dozen Flankers? B-)
And, like all those ex-McDD employees, I would NEVER refer to this bird as a "Boeing"

EDIT! I've already posted the video in the FS Videos thread, but for completeness here it is again, just a quick 3-ship sortie at low level out of Nellis AFB.
The radar altimeter reads 50R and less, a lot of the time.
It's a regime where the Mudhen can operate with impunity.

I know, I know... but Ian the MiG 17 was a better dogfighter, y'know.
This is Progress...

Found another Lucien Lie photoreal repaint.
I know the Flanker's been aired before, and I want to do a spread like for the Strike Eagle, but...
I cant...hold... back...

Too right!
But y'know you look at it...
#1: Jaguar...
#2: Starfighter (Wing)!
#5: F4 Phantom bum!
I am reminded of those post-WW2 Japanese car imitations.
Piglet is a thorough, industrious modeller.
Good spread Ian, that landing would've knocked the wind out eh?

A cold war trainer and was a Wanaka Warbird visitor until the recent loss a few years back with its crew in the Thames Estuary , The Fouga Magister CM170 v1.1 by Andre Chancel and Restauravia team a latest release for both FS9 and FSX , this is one superb model

the VC, give you the feeling of being in a 50s design cockpit

here in the back seat , with a 2D periscope view as well

Just a whole lotta fun ,

As mentioned , your office , the cockpit

there also is a Naval version , the Zephyr

Hmm I was wondering what that Magistar was like this morning - looks good - off to down load now. Nice shots too guys of the B-57, F-15E & F-1 (didnt know that FS model existed)!

Yep I agree the F-15E is one of the most potent strike a/c around - air to air its lost its edge a bit lately with the invincible F-22 now in service and advanced Sukhois now in service in a few countries not to forget the Typhoon & Rafale.
