Thats one cool model.

Im amazed nobody has had a crack at this one.

The Phantom

Pretty cool reheat effect. The only thing missing is the smoke.

Tucking the gear away

The Phantom was initially built without a cannon. This machine has one strapped to the belly.

Pretty evil looking aeroplane

Back to earth.

In Angola, this aircraft met its nemesis, the MiG 23, of which more later.

Looking forward to that-I can't believe that Mirage F-1 is freeware-its beautiful

Yak 38 "Forger"Â￾ by Kazunori Ito. The Soviet answer to the Harrier; a VTOL aircraft that served on carriers. No-one seems to have had a good word to say for it-underpowered and quite dangerous, apparently-, but it looks nice, to me at least.

Had to use slew here -couldn't hover it to save my life.

What a showcase!
NZ is being overrun by aviatourists keen to catch a glimpse of these rare birds!
One of the benefits of the thread is the forgotten models - how did I miss Rick Piper's Meteor??
Great pics, CN.
And a Forger! That really was "Anything you can do...".
As I remember the Kiev sailed out under US spy satellite schedules, and hovered the Yak for the pics.
Caused consternation no doubt, back at Langley.

I finally managed to link my little video clip, look at Kirk's gear animations!
And a clickable VC version of Eric Marciano's radar!

Suchoj Su 35 ...
Good shots of a fabulous aircraft.
Technically...Su-35 was post-Cold War, though.
Interesting spelling - usually see it as Sukhoi

And Now For Something Completely Different

Because it was my Birthday yesterday, I treated myself to the new Alphasim A6.
These of course saw action in Vietnam. Although the model here is an A6E TRAM.

Gear up. She climbs easy even with a full load.

Low level nav.

Rolling out on the runway.

Preparing for a night time training flight.

Sitting on the Cat.

Looking out into the merk.

The Intruder in its element.

Run into the target.

Escape! some users may not be able to see it but there are trees right under the nose.
Check out the radar altimeter and the ASI. She isnt very quick but requires attention.

Back home safe.

Sukhoi... sorry I have used the german translation and she is in my eyes correct. It is only, because english has not "ch" and no german like this ü, ä. ö, ß...

I speak russian well enough to see Sukhoi as a not correct translation. Yes, I know it is typical and you can find this one in any english book... I am from the other side of Germany, the former eastern side. Learning russian was mandatory for us. My girlfriend is also from Russia, from Rostov-on-Don.
(German: Rostow am Don) If someone have something against the Russians, he has something against me. This as information only.

I was in Vietnam in 1986 and have a different view about Vietnam and so are the feelings to see an A-6E "Intruder". But great shots.

... I am from the other side of Germany, the former eastern side. Learning russian was mandatory for us. .

I was in Russia and East Germany briefly in 1985 "“I took the train from Beijing to Berlin. Very long trip, a lot of vodka and solyanka and conversation, some frustrating times with officials but I have some nice memories. I still have some East German banknotes . Yes, I broke the law and took them out of the country! Border officials made me a little nervous"¦. but were not as unfriendly as the ones at some American airports nowadays-those guys at LA-X can come across pretty mean.

Anyway, another Soviet cold warrior, the Il-20 and 28, by Ralf Kreibich. This package includes some very nice extras and information. There is also a great article on this aircraft at the brushfire wars site: which has some amazing stories and data on "obscure classics"Â￾. Check out the Biafran MiniCOIN article!
Here's a quote from the Il-28 article:
"The Soviets pulled the Il-28 it out of mothballs to serve in Afghanistan, where it was actually more successful than later designs. It's supposedly arcane tail turret equipped with twin 23mm machine cannon was used to rake the surroundings of the site of an air strike. The Il-28 quickly taught Afghan FLAK gunners and Stinger crews that popping up from out of their office to get in a potshot on the departing bombers might be a good idea when dealing with Su-25's but if they tried to pull this stunt with a flight of ancient Il-28s they were met with a blast of 23mm rounds. ..Losses of Il-28s were correspondingly significantly lower than those of the more modern aircraft which has caused Russian designers to contemplate re introducing tail turrets in attack aircraft. "

Bomb-aimers view of Aucklands tank farm. I had a problem with the gauges as you see, but what I want to suggest here is that after decades of council foot-dragging and endless delays over the future of this unsightly area, it is surely time to consider the carpet-bombing option. If that is what it takes to remove this blight on the waterfront of our largest city, I for one stand ready to put my country first"¦

Wow nice series guys - yes badly neglected the Phantom - thanks CN & Ian for those - yep that Cloud 9 F-4 is certainly a nice add on (best fighter available for FS2004?). Is that the Alphasim F-4 CN? Been lucky enough to see some USAF F-4Es in action at Ohakea - 1981 airshow (and fly over our house in the Naki)

The Rick Piper Meteor is another nice add on - one which I must down load sometime (amongst my huge list of FS must dos).

Koyunbaba those are real nice shots - what scenery is that? ... and welcome to NZFF!

Also great shots Hugh - Yak-38 mmm I don't think it was a great performer at all - didn't last long in Russian service - pity the replacement Yak didn't see service. Also awesome Il-28 shots - especially the one with the tank farm ready to be flattened!

Hasegawa - yep I love the SU-27. SU-35 might be little late for the Cold War? - superb shots though - who makes the Sukhoi (payware or freeware)? I think a SU-27 would eat a Tornado in a dogfight - probably a different storey with the Typhoon.

CN/Ian haha saw the Intruder been released the other day and thought it would suit this thread - it didn't take long to arrive here! - Hey any of you guys seen Flight of the Intruder or read the book? Both worth reading/watching - I thought the film was pretty realistic.

I'll try and get some more shots up before the end of the week - provided nobody beats me to it! - have two or three a/c in the hanger ready for some action.
