Playing with the Recorder module, making a video of
...Sabre vs MiG 15.
The video is going to take forever, so I thought I'd share these anyway.
Shot over Hokitika.
Why? Well it's where my sim starts.
Sabres? MiGs? There is a shot where the Sabre comes headon...morphs into a MiG to show how similar they are...NOT.

Yes that's Kirk's magnificent Sabre, MiG is BearStudio just for comparison.
Sabre is better and handles like a macho plane.
No telling how good the FDE's are though

This was all much too fast to get a decent feel of the action, so I went back to basics:

nice cant wait for the movie charl ,you could slow down the sim speed to capture and do the aerobatics then speed the footage up it in editing tools??for play back in the movies ,,just a thought plus it can also get alot of those nasty jars out if you have trouble with recording lots of aircraft in playback...

I'm just too plain lazy to record slowly, it takes too long - remember this is meant to be fun, right?
For the close-up high detail shots I'll have to slow it down, though.
I'm finding FRAPS a real load these days.
Any ideas which version gives best results?
I mean, you don't need surround sound or anything do you?

Think I"ve found a possible - North American Trojan.
It's the spiriual successor to the Harvard, but with a bit of zing in its tail.

I was going to say the Harvard... but the chippy might do as it is the Tiger Moth's replacement.

Harvard is disqualified on the last 2 counts: can't go downside up, and can't get up the hill.
Co-incidentally I uploaded a Chipmunk video to Flightsim the other day, and it is a pleasure to fly.
Might just be the quality of Rick Piper's model though

I bless you for fly "my" tigerskins and I wholeheartedly agree about the time it takes to get a good formation right. It is so darned difficult in sim. But from what I've read, it is supposed to be easier in fast movers, because you have brakes as well as accelerators.

My troubles always start when I am thinking "ah, that's close enough..." and I suddenly see the lead plane from the insides.

Chippy is OK, but a bit week. It was built as a trainer pure and simple. Harvard and Texan much the same

Pitts or Christen are ideal, although no one has done a decent Pitts yet. Kev Lechmanski's Eagle simply is the best romper stomper for FS right now. Or if you fancy a single decker, try the RealAir Marchetti SF260

Chris my apologies for not giving the credit, but I think most folk recognised your sterling paintwork on the Tigers!
I am reminded that you've also been through the Recorder malarky with them.
Forgot about the Eagle, and I've done some silly things with it in the past.
The SF260, too. Actually I'm tired of it, good as it is, and it's taking a small break.

First, though, I had a go at the Trojan.
This is akin to photodiarrhea, as I was trying to put together a video storyboard.









But it too has shortcomings, like the Mustang it has a bit of a snap to it, not what you want when you can't even find your mate in the sky.

I think I have that in my "to look at" collection... I really must look. That looks interesting.

Same show that brought you all those fine North American Harvard, Mustang and Sabre machines.
The one I have here is from Alphasim because it has the coat of many colours, and it's the T28B which the Navy wanted because it has a 3-blade fan and monster motor up front.
(The Air Force one is a little 2-blade affair)
Tim Conrad has one just about as good, too.
I just haven't come up with a good sound set, the real thing has the most astonishing noise, like a flatulent P&W.

Well this is pretty much a one-man topic monologue but Cbris has also done this stuff.
At present he is horizontal aiming to get more vertical due to a minor mishap.
Taking advantage of this, I used some of his Recorder files he kindly sent me, to post screenshots as if I'd flown them myself.
You feel a bit like a Peeping Tom, playing back someones else's Recorder files...
It is truly difficult to assemble a bunch of aircraft in the sky, and my estimation of those weekend Harvard warriors we see at airshows, has gone offscale.

Chris' No. 2 formation spot was taken up at the last moment by a complete rookie who bluffed his way past the gateman, and got his first ride in an Eagle.



Finally they got it all together, to fall over. And man! can they park

If I have to ROFL much more, I'll never get vertical again! Just for that I condemn you to the "Queen" seat Charl. Set yourself on the ground in her start position and then play the others as traffic. See if you can stay there I often pick up old recorded flights and try to refly in other positions - more fun than finding the peanut in a barrel of monkeys.
