I heard from a realitive in the UK that there is a new virus speading around via e-mail that will wipe your HDD!

Here is a warning for all of you, do not open any messages containing anything about 'bin laden being caught or bin laden being hanged' <_<

It's good to be vigilant with any email you receive from anyone, and take care when opening attachments.

After saying that, the Bin Laden emails did the rounds a few years ago and did contain malware that was knocked on the head by most AV programs. The payload of the email wasn't that good apparently. The latest incarnation of the warning appears to be a bit misguided- from Trend Micro.

cheers for the heads up trolly.

I once had a virus, which used 100% of the cpu, and disabled ctrl alt del so you couldnt see what was using it all up. :o

I dont understand why people have to do this. Its not right that they completely destroy people's computers or take their info and so on...

Shoot 'em all I say!

When people use viruses too get your data and information and stuff you can see they have a point(a very nasty stopid point), but with the wipeing of the harddrive is just insane, they get no gain in there sick little ways, why do it?

It's mainly for notoriety I guess. An 'I can do this' feeling and 'everyone pay attention to me'.

The best firewall/antivirus is always the user though. AVG stopped something my son received via msn messenger yesterday. I asked why he agreed to receive the file (an .exe) and double click it ... he said, "coz my mate said it was cool".

Dumbass.

i learnt ALOT of things about viruses with my old computer.
1: dont download junk that you dont really need
2: get a good anti virus like AVG
3: DO NOT open mystery emails
4: Also get an anti spyware such as Spybot S&D
5: Scan any shady file you open for viruses first
6: Check your running processes every now and again for anything nasty

This has kept my new computer clean out of all that virus-spyware mumbo jumbo.

The best firewall/antivirus is always the user though.

well put
