I recently purchased the PCTools magazine, and included in the cover disc was the Vista Customization pack (VCP).

A neat thing that transforms your whole windows xp to look more like the up coming windows vista. Installation is prety nerve racking as it actually deletes (well windows thinks its files are being deleted but theyre being backedup) many system files, you're told to disable antivirus stuff and ignore the windows warning messages!

Well I got threw the installation fine and my xp looks rather nice now ,heres some screenshots:

The explorer gets a makeover too, see how the folders are "tipped" on their sides.

There are many other new features, I think you can download it HERE oh no maby that isn't it, thats were the pctools mag says to go anyway. Maby just google it

I might uninstall this today anyway, ill see, it has a annoying thing when ever you start up that you have to apply the new theme and it opens firefox with the "vcp tour" wich is pretty annoying.

Give it a go (if you can find it) its quite a nice do over for xp :P

I used to re-skin my XP with a modified system file (so you didn't need to run windows blinds etc), and whilst it ran sweet it played havoc with FS.

Did you do this before you started getting stutters etc mate, or after?

Just wondering if the two were linked....

Good thought Matt, maby not linked thow as I had stuters on saturday and installed VCp on Sunday, and I can remember all the way back to the day before my pc craped out I had stutters then too, Although it could still be affecting my fs performance, Ill uninstall it and see if theres any noteable change :) It may also be affecting my system memory usage thow...

Every new flavour of the Wintel cartel relied on more bloated code and so more computing power which allowed even more bloated code...and so on.
It's a win-win for them.

My flavour of WINXP looks like Windows 3.11 and it absolutely flies.

If I had my way I'd disable the GUI and go back to DOS 1.1
