I saw this link here which is for ATIS
http://www.airservices.gov.au/brief/html.a.../avreq?met=NZAA

But it only has the main centres and not smaller airports like TG sad.gif

Does any body know any websites that you can view all the ATIS reports for the NZ airports

Would be appreciated

Chris

I can't think of a place where you can get an ATIS from except by tuning into the actual frequency.

However, if you register at www.ifis.airways.co.nz you can access NOTAMs and weather information, among other things.

There's nowhere you can get them online. It's only been in recent years that we've been able to view METARs for anywhere outside AA, WN and CH. OH is on NOAA occasionally but that's all. Now, of course, there's a lot more available at the IFIS as Alex says, but alas no ATIS. We've become a little more spoiled lately as they've commissioned a number of automated weather stations that report 24 hourly, rather than just when ATC is on watch.

If it's any consolation, the SPARs used in New Zealand offer a better depth of information about certain aspects of weather than you can get through a METAR alone. They're not something used overseas either, to my knowledge. Still, appropriate conditions have to prevail before ATC will even issue a SPAR.

Just be aware that these reports aren't all based on true data 100% of the time. I say this because I wrote the script that builds a large number of these METARs from automatic weather stations that report their data in a limited format. Places like Kaikoura, Hokitika and Haast don't issue METARs ever, yet they have METARs here. That's because my script grabs data from 3-hourly SYNOP reports and then fills in the blanks based on a number of other factors. The automatic weather reports I use (that are freely available) only report wind speed and direction (no gusts), visibility in coarse increments (though not for many stations), the height of the lowest cloud layer (no coverage, and not for most airports), temperature, dewpoint and QNH. My script attempts to fill in blanks such as gusts, present weather, visibility where there is none, cloud where there is none, and cloud coverage. But it was never there to begin with so it's never going to be authentic.

The other thing that Nick sometimes does is use nearby stations to create reports (eg he uses Palmerston North's weather for Ohakea). It's very cool and we aimed to give the best weather coverage for NZ 24/7 and give regular updates. We wanted to move away from the bad old SATCO days where the Sunday night ops in Hamilton would be using an Auckland report that is 4 hours old and never changes. We've certainly helped that, but just be aware that the reports on that page should only be used for simming.
