Targa Rally job vacancy

A forum for everything else that does not fit into the other categories

Gidday

Due to my offsider starting a course a month earlier than expected I'm in search of someone to ride shotgun with me on Targa, in one of the official cars.

The job involves hiding in the shrubbery with a speed gun. Not exactly taxing, and a great chance to watch the cars at race speed - obviously, we'll normally be hiding on the fast parts of the stages. Here's the entry list and itinerary.

Fuel and accommodation are well subsidised, and I'm pretty sure they're going to give me a car to use, so the only cost would be food. The rally starts with the Manukau demonstration on Labour Day Monday and finishes in Wellington the following weekend.

We could probably even make it to Palmerston North Speedway on the Saturday night for the demo darby and fireworks

Anyone interested ?

Cheers
Gary

I'd be really keen. Obviously If you don't mind having a 16 year old with you? I'd have to ask the rents so I can't guarantee anything, but should be ok. So it's from next weekend (Monday) until the following Saturday?

It was a teenager who went awol on me so no problems there smile.gif Manukau is a publicity stage which you may or may not want to be there for, it'll just be standing around looking official and watching from up close, the rally proper is Tuesday morning to Saturday evening (which is standing around trying not to be seen and watching from up close LOL)

How would you get to Auckland ?

Cheers
Gary

That's what all my Rally NZ timing crew said too tongue.gif

Will be a fun week. No matter what else happens it's always a fun week.

Reminds me, I need a new water pistol ........

ps if the rents want to talk to me they can ring me on 021 833 200, or if they want to talk about me they can ring Keith Barnhill, the Operations Manager at Targa, on 0274 985 608.

Cheers

Ok yeah I'd probablywant to be there from Tuesday morning if I am able to come. I should be able to find myslef a cheap ANZ/Pac Blue/Jetconnect (Ugh) flight Monday night or Tuesday Morning. Maybe the NZ Post Fokker Friendship as I know most of the pilots- the only problem is it leaves WLG at about 10:45pm so it'd be a late arrival into AKL.

Do you have any idea of the total all up expense?

Tom

Gas and Accommodation is taken care of, so just food. There's a barbecue for officials on the friday night so that's taken care of too.

Late/early arrivals not a problem.

Well I've talked to Mum and Dad and thought about it overnight, and unfrotunately I'm probably not going to be able to come. I've just found out I have a Physics Internal that week so probably not a good idea sad.gif

If it was a month later I'd be a definite but it's in the lead-up to exams as well which makes in kinda hard. (Do you think I can make them delay the Targa for a month somehow? laugh.gif )
I'll be watching from around Kau Bay in Wellington though, it should be awesome. Sorry to muck you around a bit. Thanks anyway biggrin.gif

Tom - no worries, you're quite welcome to come out with us on the Saturday if you want, or even somehow get up to Wanganui on the Thursday night and do the friday / saturday.

Dazza I think that puts you in the hot seat - how/when would you be getting to NZAA from NZPP ? No rally license required smile.gif

Cheers
Gary

That would be awesome! I'll see if I can nab mum's car on Thursday night as my internals are earlier in the week I think. You think once all the targa cars are through I can shoot the Skoda past your radar gun? biggrin.gif J/K

Even if Friday doesn't work, I'll almost definitely be there Saturday.

But then you'd have to follow us in another car. Maybe you could hook a ride with someone to Levin on Thursday evening and we'll pick you up from there ?

Not sure. That afternoon is around Mt Curl / Kimbolton then back to Wanganui for the night and I'm not sure where our last place to be is, so probably early evening. I'm getting more paperwork on Friday which will hopefully include my schedule so I know where we'll be and when tongue.gif

Send me an email chairman at ihug dot co dot nz and we'll swap cellphone numbers (and names LOL) and sort it out from there.

Cheers
