1. Make sure your car's WOF and rego is current, AND it's up to WOF standard (even though you have a WOF the tyres, lights etc need to be legal and everything works). Make sure your L plates are on too.

2. Keep as close to speed limit as possible without going over

3. Move your head / eyes a lot ... but not so you look like a psycho

4. If you don't understand where to go, ask, politely.

5. If you stuff up, breath deeply and carry on. I would acknowledge that you messed up but try not to be phased by it

6. Slip the tester $20 when you shake hands. Actually that one's probably not a good idea.

7. Show your skillz at handbrake slides, drifting, and clutch drops at lights. Actually that's bad advice too, but wouldn't it be cool?

8. All in all be yourself, if my son can pass his restricted, anyone can!

GOOD LUCK

hi brownbox good luck with the test and you may find that it will only take about ten mins as mine took this long and ask the instucter if they like the footy as this helped me pass the speed limit thing also hills will get u off this as a fail just ensure that your car is a bit sluggish on the steep hills and they don't mind .also u could try country music or aold school stuff as this helps

I'd try not having the radio on as if you touch it they count it as a distraction and you can lose 'marks', I remember sh*tting myself before it and feeling invincible after :D

Judging by the driving some of the people on NZ roads you should pass easy. I was told I was going too slow (not the case anymore :D ) and wasn't looking in my mirrors enough..
Remember to indicate off roundabouts and little things like that.

I passed with a mark of 87% and I forgot to indicate out of a roundabout and forgot to look over my shoulder when turning through a bicycle lane on a left hand turn

Cheers guys. Test is tomorow, so I will let you all know shortly.
Just wondering, is parallel parking a part of the test? I can parallel park, just not very well in between 2 cars parked right on the line on a busy main street at lunch time (not to mention with a stranger watching my every move), in my parents station wagon.

I do live on a farm, so I work with machinery all day, so Im guessing I should be alright. Sorry, Im just freaking out a little... :(

Parallel parking depends on whether you get a good or bad testing officer. I didnt have to do one but some of my friends did have to so you may get lucky or he may think, oooh lets see if he can parallel park this nice long station wagon

Good luck though

Nah parallel parking definitely won't be included. I phoned up the AA and checked myself, and they said the only manoeuvres you can be asked to do are a three point turn, reverse around a corner, or both of those. (I had to do both in my test)

I would have though that this would be sort of like parallel parking, but just to make sure you can reverse and check that you check your mirrors

I believe it is used to test whether or not you can actually reverse and turn at the same time... like you would if you were backing out of a carpark or driveway etc. Apart from driving lessons, I do not think I have ever backed around a corner!?!?

Great news.
I aced the test, and he said it was near perfect. He said I just need to make sure I keep both hands on the wheel more, rather than 1 on the wheel and 1 on the gear lever (very common with driving tractors, so I was excessively doing this). Other than that, it was very easy (I had to do a U Turn)
