I've just 'upgraded' my plan with IHUG, as I was finding that the previous monthly limit of 5GB was leaving me stranded at the end of the each month. My requirements are somewhat erratic, as I sometimes download huge files -- mainly Xbox 360 demos (anywhere between 600MB to 1.4GB) and the odd beta of a well-known flight simulator's addon at around 2.4GB per beta version. A single beta and a couple of demos can pretty much use up a month's allocation.
My new plan is IHUG's Broadband 3, an all-you-can-eat-provided-you-don't-get-greedy. If I use more than a set amount for three days in a row, I get throttled for a day, which I figure is a lot better than getting throttled till the end of the month. My speed has increased with the new plan -- from about 3.5Mb/s to roughly 6.5Mb/s.
IHUG are pretty much on probation at the moment, although I've always been a fan since the old days of Ultra -- which streamed downloads via a dish on my roof. Back then they were hungry enough to be innovative and competitive, but since being bought by Vodafone they appear to be just another telco these days, and are really pushing for my normal phone business.
I pay $60 a month now, which seems pretty reasonable. However I do remember paying Telstra $107 a month for a phone, cable internet and cable TV, which was all good, clean, cheap fun. NZ really does need a lot more cable to the door, that's for sure.
