NCEA Aviation related exams

Went to the www.nzqa.govt.nz website today for the first time, once I found the search for exams thing you know what I saerched for first

Sas surprised to see quite a few aviation related internals, sadly I can't get ay examples of previos papers cos its internals, jsut woundering what some of these actuly involve? Some of them are worth 5 credits, I imagine alot of the credits would cancel each other out but even if I could get an extra few credits thatd be great.

So has any one here done these exams? What would I need to study in order to do them? Any other comments about it?

OMG... i thought NCEA was a bit pants before... but looking at that search you can get credits for courses entitled:

• Process lost and found property at an airport
• Identify, as a flight attendant, major aircraft components
• Assemble a flight meal
• Operate a two-way radio in an airport environment
• Process a complaint about an airport or aircraft operation
• Provide information for airport users
• Demonstrate knowledge of airport geography

WTH?!?!?

Thats just ridiculous... why dont they just offer twilight golf and maori singalongs FFS!

The thing that really gets me is that, "Demonstrate flying skills for a private pilot's licence" is 7 credits... and "Provide an escort at an airport" is 5... double WTH!!

PPL is worth way more credits. The whole ppl is like 25 credits for UNI!

If you look at the performance criteria and comments on U/S 8814 - Lost and found property at an airport, it states

Government agencies are consulted in accordance with enterprise procedures.
Range: government agencies may include but are not limited to "“ New
Zealand Police Service, New Zealand Customs Service, Aviation
Security.

Sounds like its for airline ground staff

Providers must be accredited by the Qualifications Authority or a delegated interinstitutional body before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

They are NQF Unit Standards, not NCEA - therefore achieved in an industry environment, i think

These Unit Standards would have to be achieved on a certified course. The Aviation, Tourism and Travel Training Organisation administer the standards, so try their website

Yes I know, what about the "prepare a flight meal" one Theres some really odd ones there.

But some of them could be easy credits.. "Demonstrate knowledge of airport geography" maby a little bit of study and that couldn't be to hard.

"Demonstrate flying skills for a private pilot's licence" is 7 credits.

Why not ae? Better than two terms of extra english just to get 7 credits, gota get 80 of these damn credit thingys, and the more I get the better it looks I suppose so I am quite keen in doing some of these, even if they are ridiculous..

I am currently year 10, hopeing to finish NCEA level 1 next year and get alot of work done for Level two next year as well.. so the more credits the merryer

Yip, also things like "Demonstrate flying skills for a private pilot's licence" means that you have to pass a PPL flight test or something

I'm not very surprised about these credits; I think it is important for us to all
remember

NCEA / NQF are public qualifications, it is their job as a Government service to provide qualifications for ALL New Zealander's, sure they may be simple and such, but there are people in this country who are well suited to these particular courses.

These are UNIT Standard credits, this means they are not Achievement Standards, they do not carry different Grades e.g. Achieved Merit or Excellence, and have been around even BEFORE NCEA was introduced, you can get unit or achievement standard credits in just about EVERYTHING, even successfully turning on a light bulb, yes there are credits for that, or McCredits, yes students can get credits for work experience while working in Mc Donald's!

The Basis I state this is that the Government has a role to fill in ALL types of people with nationally recognized qualifications, and with people at different educational levels here, they cater for all levels.

Although they are not recognized for UE (University Entrance) They do count towards NCEA Level 1, 2 3, or 4 and give some of our lower capable people the opportunity that most of us take for granted, it gives them a chance to get a basic Nationally Recognized Qualification - NCEA.

you want funny, when i did my class 2 truck licence, and my class 4 for that matter, there are unit standards that you pass and get credits for once you have got your full licence, i have also got credits on stress management, alcohol and drug effects, logbooks, how to back car trailers etc, there is even a unit standard and credit for what food you eat!!!!!!
