Ayrton Senna FTW!!

I still remember the day I saw the news that he had died... still one of the reasons why I detest Tony 'Guy Smiley' Johnston from TV3... he had this big stupid grin on his face as he read the news... unforgivable :@

Hakkinen was my favourite growing up- always have been a McLaren fan. Hamilton is currently my best driver, I hope he wins the champsionship this season!

Agreed, shame he retired :(

I like Hamilton this season though, he's got a good chance of winning it this year.

How did you decide on this list? Was it championships or just random names? Dont see Massa on the list or Kimi either, or Jensen, Rubins, Montoya to name a few. Or even Martin Brundall :P

In that case what about Eddie Irvine? He could have got the championship only lost it in the last race to Mika. that was the season schuey crashed and broke his leg remember.

Squirrel350 V8s is a two car race and that will have to go to Peter Brock for his contribution to Road Safety with the Poice Stop programmes.

Idea start another poll :)

To big a selection and already been done elsewhere the F1 poll.

There are heaps of drivers that could have been on this list. Chris Amon, Dan Gurney etc. I actually have the most options allowed in a poll. There are only a few championship winners that arnt on the list, I think they are from the 80s. I know more about the championships from the 60s more than the 90s. Back then, the cars were fast and the drivers were brave. No contempt of danger then!!!!

Not any more.

Jim Clark has to be the one guys. He drove (and won) not just in Formula One, but also Formula Two, Indy 500 as well as just about every other type of car available at the time.

If any of you ever happen to be in the Scottish Borders, visit the small town of Duns, where there is "The Jim Clark Room" which contains the trophies etc.

Interestingly there is also a visitors book signed by a rather well know Jim Clark fan, who made the trip to visit his hero's homeland.............

Ayrton Senna.

Cheers

For me, it has to be Ayrton Senna. The battles between Senna and Prost were the highlight of my Sunday afternoons for many years. But you have to consider the era: How would Fangio stack up in a 2007 McClaren? or Shumacher in a 1950 Alfa?

If I could have a top five, I'd also have

Juan Manuel Fangio
Jim Clark
Graham Hill
Sterling Moss
Jackie Stewart
Jack Brabham
Emerson Fittipaldi

All truly great drivers. :D

And I just adore the design of the race cars of the 50s and 60s B-)

BTW- I think Damian Hill, one of my other past favourite drivers is currently working as 'The Stig' on top gear B)
