Marty, I was only three-and-a-bit in 1952, but the aircraft on display were ones I grew up with. One memory is hearing on the morning news that the Fairey Delta had set a new world speed record of 1140 mph. That made me want to be a test pilot
There is a passing reference to John Derry losing his life at the 1952 airshow, but of course the crash would not have been released for public viewing. This is what happened:
https://www.thisdayinaviation.com/tag/1 ... -disaster/I have an old book (published 1969) titled 'Aircrash Detective', about the evolution of air safety. The point is made there that from a crowd of over 100,000, only one of the letters sent after an appeal for witness accounts was actually of any value in establishing cause.
