I love what the NorWest with a Southerly heading in does to the sky.
Just popped out for a ciggi and snapped these.

Note the little rotor cloud under the fat fluffy in the first shot. Not the best quality, taken on my phone.

A bit of Alto Lenticularis, nice. Not great for flying through though.

Here's some cloud - found while culling recent SI road trip Gigabytes.
Lake Pukaki with not a ripple.

Charl that is beautiful.
I've spent a lot of time down that way, and even seen water spouts on that lake.

Not sure if this will work, but while we're on the topic of clouds, was out for a lunchtime wander last week and thought this was a nice view to start the walk, heading under the motorway near Te Rapa, north end of Hamilton...

Marty yes, it was an arresting sight and on the return no longer there due to ripple.
What interested me is the way the reflection stops near the far shoreline.
Not sure of the optical physics, maybe just a breeze out there.

Dean that is a great shot, cursed as you are with the photographer's eye on the world!
I know - I do too.

As they say: the BEST camera is the one you have to hand when you need it!

That scenery doesn't take much skill to amaze... culling is the hardest part :)
I just put everything on Flickr but it's not a properly catalogued account alas.

Digging around in old photo files.

Dragon cloud

And this was a nasty but fast-moving little southerly ... ended up being a small tornado.

I spend a lot of time looking at the sky, will dig out some more sometime.

Marty, the dragon pic season is late summer/early autumn, when there are still some clouds around. Timewise, you're looking at 1715 - 1745. But you have to be quick. The clouds have to be at the right altitudes, with the Sun just below the horizon. Many's the time I have seen a beauty, shot back into the playroom to grab the cam, and the moment has been lost. No point-and-shoot with a digicam. :(

  It didn't register when I typed it, but, yes, 1715 was the Scottish uprising led by the Old Pretender, and 1745 was the next one was led by the Young Pretender aka Bonnie Prince something :D
