The bee and I

The things I get myself involved with.... this time it was a bee.
A spider had spent a long time constructing a web running from the guttering on the corner of the house, connecting to an outside table several meters away ... the engineering was fantastic, so I left it in place.
However, this afternoon, I went out to have another look at the web and found a honey bee about to be dealt with by the arachnid engineer...... I quickly cut through the supporting strands and the whole structure collapsed.
The owner did a runner, and the bee made an unceremonious landing on the pavers covered in silk ...I couldn't leave her there (I assume they are female), so I moved her into the sun, thinking if she was going to die at least she would be warm ....but....after 5 minutes warming up, she became active, but unable to fly.

So.... I spent the next 10 minutes gently removing the web from the wings, not easy on an angry bee  ...finally got the wings free, and away she went ...not even a thank you (that I could hear)

Other than that it was a good day, got mum home from hospital, and she's doing well ...lots of help around her.

Marty, you did the right thing.
In a corner of my deck, there is an ongoing merciless mutual genocide between the spiders and the wasps.
I do not like the latter, and every now and then when I swat one, it is only as food to the arachnid.
Last-mentioned get hyper active when a feebly twitching enemy triggers the web alarm.
I am always amazed at how they manage to navigate the web without getting involved with the sticky bits.

House Spiders occupy a great part of my life.
They are my constant companions.
My large house is full of them.
They decorate my rooms with their webs.
We observe each other.
I assist them if they are in difficulty, (climbing out of the bath, sink, etc).
I talk to them, but they never reply!
They are very intelligent creatures with a multitude of eyes and legs.
I am just very glad that they are very much smaller than me!
They fascinate me!
Bees are good...
...Wasps are bad!

Thanks for the comments chaps.
I've just noticed that the web I destroyed yesterday to rescue the bee is back.
After some study, I discovered how the spider constructed the silken trap. He or she would have dropped off the guttering on a single strand, and "flown" until able to make contact with the edge of the table....1.82 meters away.
Climb back up on that strand, and fly down again to attach another line at 1.45, return to the top and brace those two together ...go back down and start to fill it in ...bloody amazing.

@Charl "I am always amazed at how they manage to navigate the web without getting involved with the sticky bits." so am I .
Paul ... "I assist them if they are in difficulty, (climbing out of the bath, sink, etc)." same here ...

It always amazes me, the intelligence of tiny creatures!
Every time I observe them, they know exactly what they are doing, and anticipate the results!
There is no way that we; "clever" Homo Sapiens, could design, construct, and mimic their thoughts and actions!
They all need our protection!
...do we really need to step on that Snail?.... ...!
