It's been a long time since I came across Mike Hosking, but I am aware that part of his job is to freak people out. From what I've heard about the border control folk, not all of them are 'front line', so that percentage is probably fine. However I am not so sure that we know enough about covid to rule out transmission via frozen imports. That would be a real blow to a lot of the world, but probably good for NZ in the long-term -- if it does turn out to be a factor, then once we get covid-free (again,) it might open up a whole new export market.
Really, it was always inevitable that we get another outbreak, and it is a good test of the system -- which seems to be performing well. I'm quietly confident at the moment, but ask me again if we get an outbreak in the south....
