got to airnz.co.nz or qantas.com.au and go to the nz site.

Brennanx thanks for stating the ABSOLUTE OBVIOUS! I bet trolly's going to be taking you advice. Anyways he's still going to have to find accommodation.

Trolly do you have a car/drivers licenses? Sure it takes 8times longer than aiplane but you can enjoy the REAL WORLD scenery of new Zealand. Something a simulator can't show! You can make the trip in one day. Make sure you leave early!(if you do drive)

I'd say that flying would probably be the cheapest option, but a train or a bus may be just as cheap. I'm not too familiar with North Island public transport lol.

fly there trolly, it may cost abit more than the petrol for a car (or the weeks or muscle pain after biking there  ) but planes are fun, and fast :P

Cheap but not that safe ...

Hitching
Jumping on a goods train as it goes slow

Probably not an option due to your age but you could see if any rental companies want cars delivered.

In all, probably cheapest by train or bus. Intercity has extreme saver fares Auckland to Wellington from $10. Loks like a rather rugged trip though, leaves at 7.50pm and gets in Wellington 6.50am. Standard student fares will cost you around $70.

Good luck!

OVERNIGHT TRAIN!!!!!!

Keep up with the news do we?

The Overnight train ceased a couple of years back :( the Overlander day train nearly was axed last year but has survived and it takes 14 hours. Couple of stretchs of the Route you can actually overtake the train on the road running alongside :P
Rental Car company wont touch a 17 year old driver Matt, most relocations are from Wellington to Auckland.
Take a scenic Car Journey and might be able to fix your PC for you ;)

Thanks for the tips guys- I will proberly fly ANZ there and back. There is a nice view out the window for the duration of the trip, plus I will be able to experience a windy Wellington appoach! Might even find some time for planespotting while I am down there.

 at suggestions of walking or riding a bike, and driving. I sold my bike last year to by a car. Also last year, I drove from Auckland to New Plymouth and back which is an experience I do not reccomend... it was so boring and long!

Glad you are flying in. I hope you don't fly in on a cloudy day(which is most likely) you don't get a view then, only clouds.

I remember once I flew from Christchurch to Auckland on a nearly empty B744. I had practically the entire cabin to myself and took a ton of amazing photos of the Southern Alps and Mount Taranaki on the way, but my uselss old digital camera had an error when I tried to upload them to my computer and wiped the lot :o

I hope this time is different now I have a new camera :)

Christchurch to Auckland? 747-400? I'm probably too young to remember this unless it is still going on today and I don't know about!

ooOO00OOoo, it was three years ago. First I flew Kansai (RJBB) to Christchurch on an ANZ 767, but the ticket was to Auckland, and we about three quarters of the pax left at Christchurch airport, with the remaining quarter getting transfered onto a empty 747 up to AKL.

Yeah the first one is great...its does downhill from there though!

I drove from Palmy to Auckland yesterday morning at 3am...it was good as there is no traffic, but I was stuffed by the time I got home!
