A Lahar finally occured after a long time brewing on Mt Ruapehu today. For those that dont know, a lahar is a flood of water and 'debris'. The Crater lake over topped early this morning and has sent a flood of water down the Whangaehu River valley.

See the news report here:

All roads were closed between Turangi and Waiouru & Ohakune and Waiouru, people had to drive to Bulls then go through Wanganui!

Crazy!

Yeah I heard about this about half an hour ago, pretty exciting. Luckily not many significant settlements in the way.

It looked very full last time I flew over, so no surprises.
