As you know Sir Paul Holmes died today, aged 62, R.I.P

Aside from his extensive broadcasting career, Sir Paul also had an interesting time in aviation having survived 3 aircraft crashes in his time,
1 when the helicopter he was on crashed in the sea in 1989 killing the fellow passenger and 2 where he crash landed while piloting his vintage Boeing Stearman biplane.

Dont know whether this is good luck that he survived serval aircraft crashes or bad luck that he was involved in so many.

Unfortunately for a new low hours Pilot, it seems to be conceded that the Stearman was "a bridge too far" - to coin a phrase (politely.) winkyy.gif

Yes and I think ignoring runway closures was bad form too. And didn't he do some flyby of the Warbirds hanger at Ardmore that pissed off a lot of people?
