What do you think people like this should get done to them ! ..... maybe this smiliz2.png

Ban and $5k fine for man who neglected his dog

An Auckland man has been fined $5,000 and banned from owning an animal for 12 months after neglecting his dog.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to severe neglect after an Airedale terrier was found lying in the garden in a critical condition.

The dog's coat was matted and dirty, covered in faeces, both eyes infected with conjunctivitis, a serious ear infection and a large ruptured tumour beneath the right ear, severely dehydrated and unable to walk.

The dog was put down.

The owner claimed to have only just noticed the dog's condition.

Auckland SPCA chief executive Christine Kalin says any normal person would have realised the dog was suffering and needed urgent veterinary treatment long before it got into this state.

Yes sadly, Ian, there are some people in this world who just make me shake my head. I can't see how a person can sleep at night having this type of poor attitude to animals. But then, there are also people who treat their children as badly. I've got a few thoughts as to why / how people end up with that sort of mindset, but while it galls most of us when we read horror stories like this one, I also think it would be a mistake to simply want to kill such individuals. Part of the reason I think it's a mistake is that as vile a a person may act, as soon as we start playing the "they're not fit to live" game, we end up on a slippery slope where the bar for "deserving to live" keeps slipping lower and lower. Are some people totally irredeemable? Possibly, yes. But I think often "we" find it more convenient to just want to dispose of "nasty people", rather than invest the time necessary to help them back from "the edge". When I was younger, I was very much in favour of "off with their heads!". Now that I'm a bit older (and hopefully wiser), whilst things like what this man did still rankle me greatly, I'm a bit more circumspect in my evaluation of their right to be in existence or not... ohmy.gif

Hmm .. yip and no - some people , worst example was caught on camera , two cats caught in a trap .. two teenage low lifes find it and pour petrol on to the caged animals then set them alight .. if that is what they do to animals reason show they don't treat people any better ... there is no edge with types like that ... you drop em!

I certainly agree that the behaviour of some is truly appalling.

its not good at all. I don't want to seem like Im siding with them at all cause Im not but as much as people go on about it etc etc I still think
people should be putting more time into all the people here in NZ that struggle to get food before we start spending millions on animals.

Thats true WB .... if less people struggle , then the flow down to animals etc should be better.

Its odd , i was in the supermarket this morning (with the rest of chc) and they had two bins that you could put stuff in...one for the city mission and one for the spca. The spca one was almost full , the other had about 5 cans of stuff in it , Im not sure what that says about us.

Not hard to believe .. id spend $15 a week on Marsbar , ..... If you went to the City Mission bin and view the choice of tucker ... I would not want to eat dog roll for Chrissy ... and the SPCA , pleased the bin was full , but truthfully i'm sure the City Mission bin is only empty due to the fact many many people do the four Can deal ... three and one .. sure the City Mission bin was only just replaced . santa_cool.gif
