These were taken last week for CERA . Its hard to imagine what was where now .... more and more open land, more dust and noise.
Im working right in the middle of the "red zone" , and to be honest, all this talk of a new chc means nothing. Its a dirty, dusty, dangerous place....with a doubtful future .
All the talk is fine (re the future of chc) but when your on the ground ..... in the middle of it all, its a bit hard to imagine something new...i mean..there a no streets! in some places....still finding rotten food and god knows what else all over the place....
Its been a long week.

It is Ian , i didnt mean to sound negative , but unless your there you have no idea.

All this media BS about "rise up chc" is just that...BS . Its stuffed... and the sooner people get their little heads around that fact the better.
Maybe Im just tired .....so cut me some slack, but its bloody hard to be positive when you look at that cr@p every day.

I do think that Christchurch will recover, but people our age, Marty, will not get to see it. It's definitely a long-term project.

At the moment I'm happy to stay here (although I change my mind often:) as I have a son and daughter at Canterbury Uni, and one new (8 weeks) grandchild, but I don't think I'd like the kids to stay here once they finish their degrees. Once they are gone, I think I'm out of here.

I left Christchurch nearly three years ago now, and I still miss the place. But not really the city centre. I lived in the suburbs, and shopped in the suburbs etc.. The city centre held little appeal to me other than being a place of work. Crazy to see your photos SP, thanks for posting them. So much is gone, really unbelieveable. Pretty slow going though.. One wonders if all that insurance money is slowing slipping out of town when no one is looking.

Thanks for those pics Marty. All I can say is "Wow". Chch is my fav NZ "big city", altho I've only had the pleasure of 3 visits in the last 44 years (all less than a week). I don't recall clearly exactly how the inner city looked, but it most certainly didn't look like those pics! ohmy.gif I'm really glad I took heaps of photos last time I was there (Nov 2009), as so much has gone. I have no idea what it must be like living in amongst that, but I can totally identify with the feeling of loss and sadness. Providing the "shakes" do actually finally settle down, I think Chch has a better than even shot at recovery in the medium term, but it's going to be an effort for all concerned. I rue the day Napier gets it's next "big one"... sad.gif

Im working (in , on and around) the building with the yellow around it. Its future is 99% sealed (demo) the ones in red are coming down, im sure there are more .
