Well, that wee earthquake was a surprise - been a while since we had one that size in the Bay. Must've been more "interesting" in Wellington, Wanganui & New Plymouth though. ohmy.gif Interrupted my game of Far Cry as well. Actually, not so much - I paused for a few seconds to see if a dash for the power switch was in order... Still, been so long since we've had a decent shake, can't complain at all.

And what's up with overseas reporting between 6.2 & 6.5 and we're saying a 7? I've seen that regularly where our shakes are "under-reported" anywhere outside of NZ. I thought we all used the same system? blink.gif

For those who used to play C&C, read the headline / topic description with the voice of the commando from the original C&C in mind...

Just saw it on the news. USGS saying 6.2 and based on past history they tend to be the most accurate, but there's always a degree of inaccuracy I guess.
News says a dozen or so reports on minor damage so far, nut nothing major, thankfully. Hope all our NZ friends are ok!
The depth of the quake was a dampener on major problems.

Can we get over a piddling magnitude 7, 230km deep and focus on the real event?

According to the news there was heavy rain in Auckland yesterday. rolleyes.gif

To be fair, normally at this time of the year the media has plenty of end-of-the-world stories, such as swine flu, but not so much this year. Hence the 'Mutant Giant Zombie Killer Rat' story earlier in the week.
