I think that if someone was diagnosed with a disease caused by smoking & they didn't stop smoking their health bill shouldn’t be on the tax payers’ shoulders.

But if they did stop then their health bill should be paid by the tax payers’.

Andy i agree, and Im sure a high percentage of smokers will do so as well. The tax the govt takes on ciggis must cover the health costs......
I just dont think its fair that the drinkers arent hit the same way.....(and i enjoyed a sip or two untill a few weeks ago)

Very Topical. I'm still puffing away after 30 years, and as about 85% of the cost of a packet of ciggies is tax. If god forbid I do get a smoking related illness I wouldn't feel at all guilty about using the public health system as I've already paid about 120-150K upfront over the years.
On a side note for a giggle I looked at the Quitline site and enrolled, heard nothing for a month then got a call from a company doing a survey on Quitline’s services and how they where provided!! That was four months ago, every month without fail, still get the call “how do you rate the serviceâ€￾. What freeking service - I still haven’t heard from Quitline???
Takeoff's are optional. Landings are mandatory.

I just hope people quit long before it reaches $100.

Otherwise children could go hungry or miss out on basics while parents spend this on their habit.....

Big picture Nick ... I regularly see 10/11/12 year old Kids not going hungry for food - but with obviously stolen packets - the long puffy white things , they swear and curse ..... they are from the local primary < ohmy.gif and High Schools , its not a one person choice disease , its a social disease that is centuries old .
