A380trouble again

So who now would fly in one of these.
"The A380 plane has been grounded at the airline's Mascot jet base since Sunday after engineers discovered 36 hairline cracks in its wings during inspections"

"The latest cracks - none longer than two centimetres - were discovered during routine checks of the A380 after it hit severe turbulence above India on a flight from London to Singapore on January 7".

"The airline said the cracks were not as serious as those discovered by the manufacturer, Airbus, last month that prompted European regulators to order urgent inspections of almost a third of the worldwide fleet within six weeks".

"were not related to the turbulence but had been traced to a manufacturing issue at Airbus".

So the AIRBUST is living upto its name. Glad I did not pay $200,000,000.00+ for them.
Hope the warenty and service plan is up to funding the repairs. An expensive recall.

Not surprise me , least today they understand were to look , wonder they did cut corners in construction replying on composites and build a lighter wing , you have the weights off the aircraft plus the four engines rating much high power .. fortunate the Garuda don't operate them .

If it follows in its families footsteps , i think it will be around for quite some time..i hope so, what a beautiful aircraft.
Re the A380...I think its a great concept, but maybe just too big too soon, i really hope its not going to turn into a Titanic, or Hindenburg. I dont think Airbus deserve that.

Well I don't think anyone should be crowing about the misfortunes befalling a complex new airliner.
Sure the A380 has had its share of misfortune, but it's not good news to anyone - long term, you the passenger will pay more as a result of development problems in the airline business, simple as that.

The 787 has also had its share of problems - many of them.
It's wing would have fallen off, were it not for some stringent testing:

It's also randomly caught fire, and so on. Made of plastic, too. And fly by wire, just like an Airbus.

What is important is that the maintenance and inspection programmes pick up the issues before they cause fatalities.
Back in the day of Comet 1, there weren't these systems checks, and people died.

As to the worth of the A380, I flew on an Emirates one the other day.
It has the best Cattle Class experience you have ever seen.

The aircraft is measurably quieter than anything else in the sky, you can converse in a normal tone of voice.
(Serious long-haulers know the difference NVH makes to how you feel on arrival.)
Excellent seatback IFE, will keep you amused for hours - I couldn't stop looking at all the external camera views around the plane, especially around the airports.
Amazing ride, you barely notice takeoff, it just trundles off the ground and keeps going.

And so on.
I would be really sad to see this great craft suffer misfortune, it has advanced the art, by a fair margin.

Id be happy to take a ride anywhere in the Bristol B170 and if a crack appeared , simply pull out my trusty drill ( mid flight off course) and drill a little hole ...Fixed

Aircraft get grounded all the time, and then they get fixed, and fly again.
Doesn't make them a dud.
The entire operational F-22 fleet was grounded for a month, did you know...

Don't know if you can make this out... just a phonecam.
It really has got the most enormous wing, and it is absolutely smooth, not a rivet in sight.

I do like these tail cameras , pity they are'nt on all aircraft , it may help the scaredy,s who don't like the flying .
