Hi guys, I just thought I'd inform you thatRailworks 3 train simulator was released recently.

It looks pretty neat, especially with the new improvements (new graphics engine, updated light system, rain effect on windscreen, superelevation, etc)

Have a look at this video with them showing off the new features. The rain effect on the windscreen looks astonishing.

I'm not a huge train fan, but I had some fun with the earlier version. At $45NZD I think it's really cheap if you consider the quality they create. Most of the payware FSX addons cost more than that.

Yup, I blame my dad, he used to take us to a facility where the old steam engines were dismantled. I'll never forget the smell of the greasy oil around that place. It was a piece of history...

How does it compare to Trainz?

I originally got it because I wanted to create my local route. Waikanae - Wellington for something to do

I had Trainz (some old $10 copy of the warehouse) and found the route creator too simple/not powerful enough.

So I got railworks for 60 bucks...later that week marked down to half price angry.gif but I find the creator a bit strange, well I'd have to put in some time to get everything going.

There's not that much NZR stuff though so I don't use it that often.

Not that that really answers your question.

Just HAD to post in this thread after years of not being active on this forum...

In case you are wondering, there is a train sim cousin of NZFF, at tsnz.co.nz

I've been using Railworks since it came out (2009). Although haven't quite got the update working yet, was having download problems with steam, seems to be ok now.
