I have a big interest in Russian aviation technology, and came across this bit of news today. An "Alrosa Mirny Air Enterprise (Alrosa)" Tupolev Tu-154M made an emergency landing on a short, overgrown runway after suffering from an electrical and navigation malfunction. The plane handled superbly upon landing, and no-one inside was injured. The Tu-154 happens to be one of my favorite of the Russian birds, so if anyone has any questions about it, just ask!

Russian aircraft , i wonder why CaptainSim has not looked at any off these brutes , the AN22/TU114 or the 154 .

I think for the most part, people in this community still consider the Ruskie stuff "unpopular", which is why many payware organizations won't touch them. That being said, we're in VERY good shape in the high-quality freeware realm with FS2004. Project Tupolev's Tu-154b2, and M are just as complex, if not more so, than any payware offering out there. (Their creations are used as procedural trainers at the real Tupolev Bureau.)
Add to this Samdim's An-24 (with all patches and updates), their Tu-114/126, and SCS's Tu-134, and users that are OK with FS2004 still have plenty of complex simulation options! (Note: Looks like an Ilyushin IL-38 turboprop can be added to that list today!)
Regarding this news story, it looks like the -154 really was built as a tank! The plane was actually designed to handle "improvised landing fields" in normal operations, so it's no surprise that the landing gear held up fine.

Good on the Russians for building their aircraft to be so sturdy. I wonder how an Airbus or Boeing of similar size would have fared?
