Woke up this morning(always a good start to the day winkyy.gif ) and i was wondering about the following......if anyone knows please advise:

Will an ejector seat work if the aircraft is underwater.I know the pilot would normally (hopefully) be gone before in impact.....but what if...... dry.gif

Second question:

Is the LC-130 a specfic build, or will any herc become an LC if fitted with skis?

Just thought I'd throw those 2 into the pot for your wise consideration.

Cheers

Marty

reading the devolpment of the ejector seat by Martin Baker that underwater use would kill but have at near surface ( aircraft carrier mulfuction or arrest ) the seat worked .. the depths were not mentioned .. but sensible , 3 meters deep ya STUFFED ... just entered the water meter so long as canopy gone you may be lucky .

Any Herc can be added with the ski config .. adding extra hydro's and gear to operate

Quick answers from the top of my head - but please research more!!

Ejection under water - yes this has been done, but only when aircraft is just below surface after crashing off aircraft carrier. Google "underwater ejection" and you will find videos and anecdotes.

LC-130 - these are, not so much a specific build, but, modified standard C130s (B models I think). There is more to it than just throwing skis on, as there will be other strutural changes including a nose fairing for the nose ski, so its not something that would easily be reversed.

Have footage here off an Intruder ejection were the Nav/Attack skims the ocean side way due to a bad cat shot , he survived with a lot off luck .
