A similer thing happend to me when selling my old gfx card, the person who brought took over a week to pay e in witch time I payed the $7 for pastage and had it all ready to go and then I was told that the buyer had "passed away" then they never replied to my e-mail <_<

Try your very best to mae them pay up, and at the very least make sure you get the trademe succses fee back

its a legal agrement when they click the buy now button (how old was this kid?!?!?) its the parants responsiblity and they should pay up.

Wrong!!! Check with consumer watch, there is period in which the buyer has the right to back out of a sale. You force someone to pay up you can be done for menace if the goods have not been recieved. Just because you agreed it is not a sale until the cash goes thru even then the buyer has certain rights.

Overpriced!

No operating system so add another $100 and they have not reached the reserve price so you think they will sell it at $535?

See no mention of Graphics Card either so thats another few hundred bucks for a half decent one.

Why dont you take the advice of go into a shop and get one built to what your budget is? Cheaper in the long run.

dunno about that. the consumer guarantees act only apply when the seller is in trade, not in private transactions. if you agree to buy something, then it's binding legal obligation. the only means of escape is if the buyer doesn't pay, the goods don't arrive or if the goods differ from their description.

No its not! If someone dont have the means to pay you can not force them but even if you did threaten legal action chances are (certainly) will cost YOU more in the long run.
The burden of proof lies squarely at your feet! As the sale is via the internet there is NO proof that you are actually dealing with the person you think you are unless the address can be verified or the person has not changed the address they reside.
Tracking of IP address does not work because we in New Zealand DO NOT use fixed IP only server and the server is protected from giving out further information. Besides that you assume it is not done in a cyber cafe. If thats the case then you are well and truly screwed as is anyone thinking of tracking someones IP address.
Besides that thanks to Snowflake we now can use a neat piece of software to hide our IP.
Your talking thru your blow hole iif you think you can force someone to pay up! Take it on the chin and walk away or better still sell it in a local newspaper then the buyer comes to you.

We are getting lazy in the 21st century dont you think?

Zenith, we're talking about TradeMe here mate, and most traders on there built up a reputation based on past dealings. A lot is done on trust, and many good deals can be made, it's like a community of people who want to help others, much like this forum.

We have purchased and sold plenty on Trade me. No problems so far.

Many, if not most, serious buyers/sellers are address verified. That means that they have proven their address, or at least contactibility via mail.

If one is paranoid about their identity they shouldn't be buying and selling on Trade Me. It's that simple. If they are hiding who they are and what they are selling then it's fraud.

TradeMe and Police do pursue fraud and will prosecute. You want examples? I'm sure you don't need me to find them for you. No need to 'talk thru a blow hole' as you eloquently put it, it's fact, real world stuff mate.

Personally I wish Brownbox all the best, and cannot help but feel that your comments are not in the spirit of the community here.

I think I best explain that my above post was mainly a joke and as I can see we all didnt get the hurmor of it so I have now edited it so to not to offend anyone. (the uppercase text was NOT to be taken seriosly, maby ill follow all my lighthearted jokes with the "lol" symbol)

I am 13years old and barely have any idea of the law system I mearly backed up my statemnt by reading some of trademes rules:

If you are notified that your bid has been successful, you must complete the transaction in the manner specified. By making a bid, you warrant and represent that you have the legal right to enter into and complete the transaction.

So yes I didnt just talk threw my "blow hole" I went and did some homework before posting. I saw that brownbox was in a unpleasent situation so I was, at the very least, giveing some encourgment to try and pursue the trade.

ok, i see what you're getting at. you're saying that if someone can't pay, then it's best to forget it and relist, rather than pursue them for the price. taking it to the disputes tribunal etc is too much of a hassle.
certainly, that is the practical reality of selling goods on trademe. but if it was, say Air New Zealand buying a 787 from Boeing and Air NZ didn't pay up, you can bet that Boeing would pursue payment for their aircraft...
