Took this from home on thursday evening.......it looks like a Q-400.....but are there any here yet?.....more than likely just distortion because of the light and range etc.
It sounded like a Herc.

Not a good pic at all, i was just interested in the clouds behind it.

hmm it does look like a q400....the MRC blog has noting about a q400 in the country though ..although I do note there are no Qantas widebodys coming to NZCH anymore. What widebodys still fly there?

It has stopped - yesterday. Its only 738s and Jetstar from now on.

Air NZ has Q400s on option but not a firm order ..maybe they willl replace the ATRs one day then again they may let the options lapse.

Cheers for that Paul , Its funny , in its heyday , Christchurch International was to small to handle the biggies , wow a 707 then 747 s and DC-10 till they upgraded , that suited till the many people decided New Zealand was the place to be . the airport is now going through a major reconstruction at present and 'Ha ' the size off the aircraft drops to a third of the size .

It amazing to see how much the airport has changed over my span , looking at books old photos and what i recall , the memories and the aircraft types .
