Anyone want to try speedway photography next weekend ?

A forum for everything else that does not fit into the other categories

There are 4 more or less regular infield photographers at Huntly Speedway. Next Saturday all the others will be doing other things and there will just be me. That's a bit awkward with two ends of the track to cover, so wondering if anyone would like to give me a hand ?

The meeting is the Valvoline Waikato Super Saloon Championship / Kevin Bates Memorial / Waikato Production Saloon Championship. Classes running are SuperSaloons, Saloons, StockCars, Midgets, MiniStocks, Production Saloons.

You must have a DSLR with decent autofocus, and you must know how to pan, and how to shoot at a fixed shutter speed. Fast glass isn't critical, after it gets dark you'll be putting your flash on. You'll need a proper one of those too, the on-camera flashes don't cut it. You don't need a big zoom, I find I spend most time around ~120mm.

You'll need a well developed sense of self preservation, quick reflexes, and be able to jump or run if it's necessary. It normally isn't. Good peripheral vision and the ability to shoot with both eyes open helps a lot.

You'll come away with several hundred shots from which you pick out the good ones then supply us with small copies of them for displaying online, you can watermark those with a copyright, and people may wish to buy prints of them. You own the images and aren't expected to hand over the full size originals (although the easiest way to handle someone buying a print is to email the original to our head snapper and let her worry about it).

Anyone want to give it a go (weather gods permitting) ?
