I can't believe how slowly the clean up is happening. For the sake of chch continuing at all they need to hurry up a bit. At least clear the rubble, that might raise spirits a bit.

Biggest problem Alister , they sorta had it cleaned up , Rick 'Brother' was on the South Shore when we had the 5.7/6.3 again , after previous most areas had started to look a little norm and to all the Great efforts off the Farmy Army and Uni cleanup teams , now back to the starting point .

Buildings that look prone to going should just be pulled down. No use a building that 'might be' fixable being left standing only to kill someone in the next 6.0 quake. So more buildings shouldn't have fallen down this last time, they should already have been pulled down. But who I am to talk, sitting here in solid Nelson. It's just dreadful to see what feels like my 'hometown' in such a state sad.gif

Thanks for the pics leow.....i think this place is stuffed now. They say that no rebuilding can start untill we are 21 days quake free....what the hell is that about. We are now living on a very active seismic zone , and they wont stop. All these brick hugging twits need to get over it....i know its awfull to see the cathedral looking like it is, so rather than wait, lets find a safer place to build it again.

Chc has a real opportunity to become a model for a modern city in this type of active area......low rise , eco friendly buildings (roof gardens) solor and wind power....i think weve learnt much more than weve lost over the past 12 months....and if you dont like it , then move...its a no brainer as far as i can see.
Maybe a little uninformed and harsh, but its my 10 cents worth.

"now back to the starting point " thats it in a nutshell Ian....and we will keep going back to that point for a long time.....so lets stop waiting...find out which ground is solid enough , and get moving....throw away the old plans ....CHC Mk2 here we come.

Just saw a briefing on TVone. Good job I'm not deaf. At least 2 ignorant pr**ks had their mikes blocking out the signer's hands and lips.

Yeah my wife was trying to watch it, she was pissed (she's deaf).

As most of the news programs in Perth are not subtitled (well foxtel as we don't get free 2 air) it's very refreshing to be able to get instant information, as live subtitles can lag, and when they get too far behind they cut their losses and start where the current information is.

As ex cantabs, it's affecting both of us quite a lot, and when the mayor had the interpreter with him all the time, she got a lot more information than anything else.

For all you cantabs though, well done on living there - I don't know if I would have the strength to continue staying there. Having said that, seeing the iconic places crashing down, it does make me home sick. The church at Latimer Square (St Johns) was where I use to go, and I saw that the vicarage beside it has gone. How many times have I walked past the cathedral, gone to Lyttelton etc.

When I come home, there is going to be a very different Christchurch.
When asked what I have contributed to on this earth my reply will be my daugther

Bit more solid, a bit higher up to avoid rising sea levels...
It's a rare opportunity, and a smart call, for future generations not to have to go through all that again.

Charl , they call it the Garden City , maybe bulldozer that - the eastern area down , most icons gone or going much the city center , that,s what happens when you mess with destroying natural history such as 'Wigram' - being a manger part off CHCH , maybe our former Major woke up from the dead to give the idiots a shake up - Marty Christchurch MK2 had better reinstate that ole airfield , you could join my team of cavaliers to rebuild the city .
