Surely, some of you have phones. So are there any you would recomend? Pretty much, I want something black, pretty small, no flip screen, and $2-300

Im not sure of the prices in NZ, as they seem to be redicuoulsy higher than Aussie- Try Ebay.

But I quite like the Nokia 6280 and the Nokia 6120 Classic. Check those ones out

Ya gotta go Nokia for sure can get a sturdy lil $99 Telecom Nokia like Ive got its black nothing fancy just perfect for txt and calls.

I actually just brought a new 3.5G HSDPA Sony Ericsson V640i first one in HN to get one lol

Actually, I was thinking more Sony Erricson K750i. Can get one for 200$, and it looks nice. Also, dont think much of those slide up and down ones. It needs to be "discrete" in class

, hence why no flip phones, and the sliding ones get pretty big.

The Nokia 6234... the black ones look smart as... its what we're using as our 'standard' phone for our users here at work... and Vodafone have them on special for $269! with free delivery...

I'm sure if you go into the store and sign up on contract you'll get it even cheaper... or you can just go and buy a prepaid sim...

But seriously - if it can send and receive phone calls, and text messages, why does it need anything else? Games, cameras, video? What exactly is the point of all of this :ph43r:

I thought the original point of a cellular phone was so that you could carry a portable telephone around with you, to communicate with people when you were out somewhere...(sorry, going a bit off topic here...)

Get 2 cans of Baked Beans , empty contents , maybe on toast:P , $1.39 at Woolworths , thats on special for the week

, then clean the cans thoroughly !

To be real Razzy , glue and seal the labels , or even put your pets fav food label on , PVA before sealing .

With your Phone now looking a 'Million Bucks' place the can on the ground with the bottom facing you . :rolleyes:

This is the Tech part :blink:

Drive a 2inch (50.8 mm) nail thru the center , be sure not to scratch the surface .

You are now required to cut your BANDWIDTH - ie: a piece of string 20 meters long , tie one end and thread tru the front off the receiver can , (Catfood) this end .

You then thread through the other end via the back off the phone !

THIS IS IMPORTANT FOR THE PHONE TO WORK PROPERLY OVER LONG DISTANCE :unsure:

The final connection is tying a pop-rivet to each end of the string threaded thru the transmit and receiver .

WHOLA .. a BRAND NEW PHONE :thumbup:

haha thats back to basics Ian - I have to say I have a new phone - an Okta touch phone - it does everything including making my coffee in the morning but the blasted thing is hard to read in bright sunlight, you have to recharge it every few minutes and you need a degree to work out how to use it! It took me a while to work out how to actually make a call!

Y'know we did this as kids, but we were adventurous and used 100 feet of twine.
Difficult to tension, and mumbling into the can often led to disgruntled "I can't hear what you're saying!"
Then you'd just bellow over what it was you'd said (Without the can, over 100 feet you actually didn't need to raise your voice much), and he'd say "Oh. Yeah"...

Hmmmm on the Brainiacs show last weekend, they found that the maximum length for a tin can phone was about 14 metres...

and that you can use it as a 'conference phone'... they had 4 cans attached in a big cross... <_<

Just a bit of an off topic question.
I understand some phones have internet browsers, and most phones are able to use 3rd party apps such as instant messangers, email, google maps etc. Is this internet free, or is it some insanely high cost per minute type thing?

had a quick look on vodafones site, and it costs 2c for every web page loaded. Thats expensive internet... guess I will just stick with leaching wifi internet with my ipod touch for now then...

I got a sim card from the local shop, and I will put it in my phone, and have $5 credit. Is this what they call Prepay? Im guessing it is, as the only other "plans"on the vodafone site are On Account, which definately doesnt sound like what Im doing here.

Yea, you'd need to top up your phone reasonably regularly by purchasing top-up cards from gas-stations, dairies and the like.
