Its that time ...again.

Postby Splitpin » Tue Dec 24, 2024 4:41 pm

My goodness, Christmas again. It seems to come around faster with each passing year.

Tomorrow will be very low key, just me and my partner, brother, and the lads at various time at Mums.
Slow cooking a nice bit of corned beef to contribute to the communal feed, along with a salad.( which I'm not slow cooking)
At 90, Mum is pretty much over feeding a team every Christmas...so its a BYO/BYOF affair.

All that aside, I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas, and thank you for all your support, knowledge and for just being here.
 :)

Hello, all my Chums!
It's a funny old do, but when it comes to Christmas Cooking, it's no different to any other day for me!
I prepare and cook the equivalent of a Christmas dinner every day of the week!
At 90, (I've just renewed my Driving licence, AGAIN!), home cooking is still one of my favourite hobbies, (as well as Motorcycling, and pretending to fly Aeroplanes), and it's been so for as long as I can remember!.... ...!
It's just the additional Roast Bird that decorates my plate, with all my various fresh vegetables and magic gravy!
...it just makes a change from my regular roast sausages, joints of meat, stews and casseroles, and meat pies!.... :P ....!
...and, of course, it gives me the excuse to sample some sweet sherry, etc, as I fill my pots and pans, (and boots), with all the good stuff! .... ....!
Tonight, Xmas Eve, I will pop the Parrot in my gas oven, gas mark 4, overnight, ready carving on Xmas Day!
...together with opening all my presents, which my family have all presented me with!..... :groupwave: ...!
I don't know about all the Jesus and Santa Clause stuff, but my Xmas day of cooking and eating, (on my own), is always a happy time for me.!
So, there you go Chums!
I wish all of you a Merry Whatsit, and a Happy and Healthy New Year...
...as I sample yet another glass of sweet sherry.... ...
...wake me up on New Year's Day!.....HIC!.... ... ...!

Paul...in England...on a midwinter's day, at 55 degrees Fahrenheit, (I love Global Warming!)..... .... :UK: ....!

There used to be a great bottleshop in Toowoomba. The manager claimed to be Australia's only Beer sommelier and they had a great range of imported brews. It was on my way home from work, so I would grab a six-pack to try, and my great neighbour and brewmeister Tony-next-door would attempt to replicate it, with great success. One stein was a reward from the manager and I think the other came in a Fathers Day gift pack with two 500ml cans. We also scored a variety of glasses, the different shapes having a remarkable effect on the flavour of various beer styles.
In NSW, you get 'New' beer and 'Old' beer. What you see in the pic is Tony's home-brew version of a NSW Old, and very nice it is too. We get 48 500ml bottles per brew, for less than $1 each. Of course we had to drink a lot of imported stuff to build up a supply of bottles, but that couldn't be helped. Life wasn't meant to be easy
