I have an Ipad and I am very happy with it and have no problems with it (they are pricier than the most tablets though).... but the kids always hog it for games. On the rare occasions I get it I only use for surfing the net and downloading the occasional magazine - and some of those mags have great ipad/tablet only features which you cant get on the run of the mill paper. Great resolution too for watching movies

My brother is a samsung man but personally i reckon the ipad is very good. I did have a friend who's galaxy froze and had lot's of bugs, I have never had any problems with Ipads or heard of major problems.

Im a bit in between Kahu , which probably wont help much sorry .... i have a Samsung S3 (phone) , and an ipad 2 .
Ive seen and played with a samsung tab ..... awesome stuff , but the ipad (even if older , its a 2 ) is awesome as well ... apple seem to do the graphics so much better.

Tell you what , pm me if you get time ..... Ive got another iPAD 2 I got from Japan you may want to consider as a lead in for your good lady .... exactly the same as NZ ones , but just needs a power adaptor (which i have) and a good price (but you can decide that)

Here to help if possible .

have both the Samsung Glaxay phone and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet. Both great and have given me no trouble. One thing I like about the note is the ability to have a split screen with two apps showing at the same time. On the other hand if your good lady is a bit antagonistic towards techy things then the ipad mini is quite delightful too.

Take her down to the store and let her play with them and fondle their gentle curves and see which she bonds with - probably the most expensive I suspect!!

I wouldn't own anything except an android tablet but I do covet my mates ipads for their OMGodlike screens and they are soooo light !!!! Depends on what you're going to do with it really - if you're just going to look at existing online content or use downloaded apps then the ipad has a nicer screen and is lighter and is just oh so sexy, but if you want to look at your own files ... with my android I just plug in a usb cable and it shows up as an external drive in windows explorer and I can drag and drop onto it like any other windows folder, with an ipad pretty much the only way to get files on and off of it is through itunes. For me that's a deal breaker. YMMV.

I have a iPad and it's very good, but very expensive like about $720 for an iPad 4

Also I access the NZFF Forums on it and works just fine.

I bought myself a Microsoft Surface Pro when I was over in the States earlier this year. In my opinion, Windows has the best touch OS available at the moment. Depending on the use, a Windows 8 RT tablet might be a great option.

Personally, I find Android a resource hog and iOS just looks like cr@p to me (taste issue winkyy.gif).

i have got three tablets (well gave one to my mum in law), had the Samsung tab 10.1, and acer iconia a501 and i replaced the Samsung with an ipad 4. they are all good tablets, the Samsung and Ipad are pretty close, the screen looks great on the ipad, and not to shabby on the Samsung either. it all comes down to what your preference is, the ipad does have a slightly different way of doing things, my wife hate the ipad/iphone interface, but then she doen't use it much she prefers to android systems. best recommendation i can give is see if you can try both out for 1/2 and hour or some, maybe borrow a mates or play round in store. see which interface and tablet she prefers. at the end of the day they have similar specs and perform the same functions, just the way they get there might be slightly different. the acer is a good tablet, just doesn't have the flash of the Samsung.

also with a tablet some people don't think about the weight difference, but a lighter tablet does make it eaiser to hold and use for a longer period of time. (my main reason for not getting a Samsung tab 2 10.1, it was heavier and thicker and had less ports for more money than the 10.1)

just my thoughts

You've had some good feedback but I might as well chuck in my $0.02 as well.
I've played extensively with various 7" and 10" Androids, with all the iPad releases and both the RT and Pro MS slates.

If she wants something to do office or business work on, already has a MS desktop or laptop, and $$$ aint an issue, then I'd recommend the Surface-Pro, MS are copping a lot of flack over their tablet strategy but I've played with it and its an excellent piece of kit.
If she wants to save a few bob and isn't too concerned about cosmetics or having what the rest of her friends are likely using and raving about, then she should go for the Android.
If she wants something that looks great, feels great, and just works when you want it to, then go for the iPad. It's by far the most cohesive and sexy of the three, no doubt about it.

Now personally if shopping for myself, I like the Android, can customize it to a larger degree, aren't too concerned about the cosmetics, and you typically have greater IO options
