I actually took the weekend off, went into 'town' today for my first look at the 'Restart' city mall, built from shipping crates in the old Cashel Mall, which was pretty much completely destroyed by the Feb earthquake. I've kept away from the city until now, as it is still very weird to see all the damage. The mall looks great, lots of people about, but you can't look too far into the distance without seeing some pretty raw devastation.
When we pulled into the new temporary bus exchange I was a bit disappointed to see what to me looked like a disaster relief effort -- I imagined being herded into refugee camps. Still, it's better than the old temporary exchange, which was just a row of buses beside Hagley Park.
